Let's Write A Song! (lyrics)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys I have an idea. Let's collaboratively write some lyrics to a song. I could, without too much difficulty, write it myself, but I thought it might be fun to try it as a 'group' effort.

Couple things or 'rules' I guess you could call them. Since this is my idea I will have final say about what is included. Call it 'creative control' if you like. I think most would agree that every team needs a quarterback, so to speak.

About the song:

The music will be an upbeat country-blues style... sort of cousins to "Folsom Prison Blues", that kind of style, but a completely different song of course. I have not written the music yet, but it will likely be in Ab or possibly D.

Inspired by my bandleader wanting to change the name of my roots rock & rockabilly band to "Dick Cash and the Cadillac Bloodmen", I ask myself what is a "Cadillac Bloodman"? The direction I would like to take it is that the Cadilliac Bloodman is a mass murderer who goes on a killing spree to try to satisfy his unquenchable and most certainly insane desire to kill. Yeah I know its a cliche, but fun nonetheless.

I want the song to be 4 verses and I have already made a start at writing the first verse.

What I have in mind is that you guys help me write the lyrics to the other 3 verses. Again I will maintain creative control and will decide what stays and what goes. Please don't get your feelings hurt if I don't use your ideas. You can always write your own song or start a new thread etc if you so desire. If you think this whole thread is a stupid idea, well that's nice. You don't have to contribute.

Let's try to stay within the theme I have presented. Also, one idea I have is to end every verse with "He's the Cadillac Bloodman", but I am NOT married to that idea.

One other thing. I would prefer if the lyrics were somewhat artistic, but accessable if you know what I mean. I think you'll get an idea of what I mean from what I have written in the first verse....

There's a black moon rising on a quiet clear night
Something's in the air, something's not right
White heater worms of furnace hell

Beyond the line of sanity this man dwells
Sound of heavy boots and blood on a knife
He makes his rounds to take another young life
Its all part of his festering plan
He’s the minister of sinister
He’s the Cadillac Bloodman.

There's a happy rainbow sitting in the sky
Surrounded by flowers and a butterfly
The summer day warmth is quite swell
And i chuckled when a baby deer fell
Sound of chirping birds singing in trees
so i went to the to the forest and shared honey with bees
i return home and cook bacon in a pan
I'm the pope of hope
I'm the cadillac bloodman

Thanks for the effort Monkey, but I'm wanting something more in theme presented in the first verse... murder and all that.

Not so much with the rainbows and forest fairies.

well your first verse is of someone who is speaking about the caddillac bloodman and in such an ugly tone as him being evil... my verse serves with the other verse showing that softer side of the bloodman that only he himself would know. because why the public think of him as an evil murder he is quite a lover of peaceful summer mornings which is what i tried to depict in my verse... sorry if that doesn't fit with your murderous theme... geeze...

Murder is super cool and justified
Taking another person's life
Knifes and guns and baseball bats too
The beautiful sounds of screams in the night
Every night he takes another life
Driving around in his caddy
This is his life
He’s the Cadillac Bloodman

Well, this thread seems to be going nowhere...

so I finished it...

This is just the first draft. Its a bit choppy so I want to work on that. Any suggestions welcomed.

Cadillac Bloodman

There's a black moon rising on a quiet clear night
Something's in the air, something's not right
White heater worms of furnace-faced hell
Beyond the line of sanity this man loves to dwell
Sound of heavy boots and blood on a knife
He makes his rounds to take another young life
Its all part of his festering, glorious plan
He’s the minister of sinister
He’s the Cadillac Bloodman.

His face gets more scarred and grizzled, but oh what a thrill
Victims scratch at his face in the heart of the kill
He can feel the heat of his victim’s breath
Some search for love, he just looks for death
Clock strikes midnight and he’s out on patrol
Searching for the power that satisfies his soul
He likes to take his time whenever he can
‘Cause murder’s something sacred
He’s the Cadillac Bloodman.

His Daddy made him do things no boy should’ve done
Disturbing dark memories, never seen the sun
He has a ragged limp and he’s missing one arm
There’s always some killing to do down on the farm
He likes to use the knife so he can feel the plunge
He likes to keep it bloody, likes the look of caked on grunge.
Used that knife for twenty years, calls her Marianne
Murder is good clean fun
He’s the Cadillac Bloodman

His Cadillac is dirty, long and greasy black
Trunk’s filled with skulls, all neat & tidy stacked
He takes his killing seriously and considers it his craft
Cops thought they caught him once, he just sat back and laughed
He takes it nice and slowly ‘til the early morning sun
A bit of this, a bit of that, then the killing’s done
So if you hear heavy boots behind you, best get running while you can
Before he cuts you into little bits
He’s the Cadillac Bloodman
