Someone broke into my dads car and stole all his CDs, cassettes, and harmonicas.

One of the tapes was the last remaining mix tape from when he was a band. Some dayum good music on there I must admit. Lost forever.

Just thought I'd share.

At least he didn't get an expired inspection tag ticket. 94 dollars of my hard-earned money because this lame crappy county doesn't have anything else more interesting so they have to prey on unsuspecting motorists.

Yeah, and who cares it was my fault for not getting my car inspected? They should make it more obvious your inspection is up. It's like owning a car brings responsibilities and stuff...

I guess the one perfect way to prevent theft is to only own Indie albums.

But then the Indie kids will hire sXe kids to break in your car and steal the albums because they will say you bought those with drug money, and they'll pay the sXe kids with money their trust funds.

Does seem weird who steals tapes?

most likely somebody living close by on foot
sometimes they just throw out the stuff they don't need or can sell
maybe you will find some tapes tossed somewhere close by

otherwise i have had reel to reel tape masters stolen
that big inch stuff ain't very cheap.

thats what she said

Archive anything else of personal value via cross-platform file formats burnt to few CDs or DVDs.

There are a range of Open Source applications for doing so.

And a power drill, and some machettes. Couple hundred dollars worth of stuff. And my dad's most favorite album got stolen: Four by Blues Traveler. He is like really pissed.

That sucks a**. I will say though that it might help to realize what you & your father still have- are you both reasonably healthy? Got good friends/loved ones? Be thankful for the good stuff- that recording is absolutely irreplaceable, but I'm very thankful some tweaker didn't kill the man over it. I also hope things get better for you.

a terrible thing, but it could for sure have been worse.

there are tapes of my grandfather somewhere in my house, he was a professional organist, and supposed "master" of any instrument he picked up, from guitar to cello to accordion and trombone.. i'd probably want to convert those cassettes to mp3's, should probably do so asap.
