Exclamation Light Beer = Bigger Hangover

Sign in to disble this ad
As someone who enjoys many a beer in his line of work, I've begun to notice a trend. When I drink "light" beer, I feel twice as bad the next day. Sometimes, I'll start to develop a hangover WHILE I'm drinking light beer, if I don't drink enough of it.

Case in point. Wednesday night, I drank Coors Light. An average night at the bar, I probably consumed 10 beers over the course of 5 hours. My stomach felt like it was going to disintegrate for the next 2 days. Saturday night, I drank 2 pitchers of Summer Shandy, a pint of Bass, and a shot of Jack Daniels, and I woke up with only a mild headache.

I always drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids during/after consuming alcohol, and try to keep things 'moderate'.

So what is it about "light" beer that makes me so queasy the next day?

The solution is to drink proper beer and not wishy-washy lager

I have no scientific proof to back up my claim, but I figure since hangovers are caused by dehydration, and coors is 98% water, your hangover must be attributed to something else. Have a Sam Adams and think what it might be.

Maybe it's because you're drinking to get drunk?

What's your line of work? "Time Travel" (passing out and waking up somethere else?)?

Oh, and drink some real beer.

I got some of the worst hangovers from Heineken and pina coladas but I drank 6 shots of rum, 4 shots of tequila, and 4 well made margaritas one night and got nothing. I also down a whole bottle of Jack Daniels chased with a 2 liter of Coke and woke up the next day feeling great. I really don't understand it either.

I know Guinness gives me no hangover. I'm pretty sure I absorb more nutrients than needed to clear a hangover when I drink it.

Hangover is when your body dehydrates. If you drink alot of water before going to bed, you'll wake up without a hangover or at least a Hangover Lite. :P

Trust me, I'm Russian.

Ok. Let's clarify a few things here. First, I don't always 'drink to get drunk'. I'm a social drinker, and I'm usually stuck in a bar for 6 hours at a time, because I'm a gigging musician. Second, I could get a ripping nasty hangover from 3 light beers, or be fine after a 12 pack of fine Boston Lager. It's not about the quantity consumed. As for the digs at Coors Light, ALL light beer sucks, I dont care which commercial you think is cooler, or where your brand loyalties lie. Lastly, I know that hangovers are mostly caused by dehydration, but there are other factors that figure in to the severity and symptoms. Wine gives me headaches, light beer messes my stomach up.

I was having to watch my cholesterol and started drinking alcohol-free beers during the week. You guessed it, I was getting hangovers. I think it's the chemicals and additives they put in the mass-produced domestic junk.

Well then, you've answered your own question:

Cease drinking cold, bubbly horse pee and calling it beer. Drink actual beer. Fewer and weaker hangovers.

Problem solved.
