Is it just me, or this epic?

everything about it. the animation, the story, and double especially the score (damn, that's some awesome sounding fretless bass!)

still sends shivers down my spine when I watch it.

Unless you have great animation, story and score, it is the epic.

True. I felt the story was a hodgepodge of a lot of other stories already told with a lot of not so subtle Christian undertones. Not to mention that annoying song sung by that little rat thing ometepediafajitapedata or whatever the hell the name of that song was.

LMAO.

Personally, I felt that witch in the Wizard of Oz was much more traumatic.

I personally rate The Lion King as "pretty good" as far a Disney/Disney type movies go. I've seen the movie about a bazillion times since my daughter was at that age when she wanted to watch it every day when it came out on VHS. I think the music could have been better, but that's just my personal taste.

I think Beauty and the Beast was a more entertaining movie, although the music also fell a little short, in my opinion. My favorite of all the Disney movies of the time is easily Alladin. The music in that kicked butt!

The Little Mermaid was a pile of poo.

It's awesome.

Hercules is pretty underated, and worth repeated viewing (great music, and styling).

Had all those on vid, two kids of that vintage.

My favorite line from "Little Mermaid"; Sebastian the crab saying to Ariel, "You're under a lot of pressure down here".

I love the Lion King. It's my favorite disney movie. I'm taking the woman to see the stage version in a few weeks.

Lion King's a great movie, probably one of my favorite Disney movies up there with Toy Story, The Jungle Book, and the underrated Robin Hood.

oh no doubt about it . Flying monkeys with teeth and all - scared the crap outta me even in black and white ....

I saw the Lion King at The Pantageus in Hollywood. The production was simply amazing. The pit band was beyond amazing - makes the guys from Cirque du Soliel sound like a garage band - OK - maybe not those guys are monsters too - but the LK band was ... heck, amazing isn't strong enough word.

... and the line from the narrator bird, regarding the dress worn by some witch aka homeopathic healer sorta typa character ... 'looks like a shower curtain from Ikea' Is pretty much a classic for me.

I'm not a Disney fan at all - but I'd go see that again.

In the meantime, Tickets for the Cirque in Stumptown for early March. Yippee! My wife is like - did you see that ? I'm like yeah... is that a sunburst finish or is it the lights ? oh you mean the babe on the pole - no I uh, missed that ... she did what ?

The movie can't even hold a candle to the stage version. It is INCREDIBLE what the production crew did. The costumes, the puppetry, the sets -- all truly awesome. PLUS there's more songs that are IMO far better than the ones Disney picked for the movie. Lebo M. added quite a bit of African music as well. Check out the broadway recording if you get a chance.

+1 on Jungle Book for music, Maki. The vultures singing "That's What Friends Are For" (no, not THAT song) is my favorite.
