LivingSocial GC Gift Cards

Sign in to disble this ad
So, my family gave me a ton of these LivingSocial things. I have like 300 dollars worth of them. I discovered today that you can't use them in conjunction with each other. Does anyone know ways I can use them together? Without being dishonest, please. Just looking for loopholes.

Unless you go into the store and ask the person behind the cash register, you will always be wondering.

I did. They said no. I'm looking for loopholes.

Use them to make payments on a lay-away? That's about the only loophole I can think of.

Asked about that too. They said no to that too. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Nobody else? With this little fine print there should be some sort of loophole.

I like the lay away plan. See if you can use them for lay away payments

I'll take one

Seriously, the lay away is something you might want to look into. I can't really think o anything else. Businesses are almost immune to loopholes.

This leans more to the dishonest side, but you could make small purchases and then a few days later return said items in separate transactions. Hopefully they will not notice and give you cash/gift card for the returns and then you should have close to the $300 in cash/gift cards.

IMO, if you then use the cash/gift card at GC, this is only slightly dishonest, if they give you cash and you walk away, you are being a major _______ (insert you favorite bad-person descriptor).

This is the logic I would use:
  • Ask for a manager.
  • Ask him if there is a set number of $1 bills he is allowed to accept for a purchase.
  • When he asks "what do you mean?", say that you want to buy something that cost $5000 and wondering if you are only able to use 10 singles or 5000 singles to pay for the purchase.
  • When he tells you not to be ridiculous when it comes to a limit on $1 bills, turn around and tell him that he is being ridiculous for not accepting more than one gift card.
  • Remind him that in order for someone to receive a gift card, real money was used in order to posses them.

The only problem with that logic is that the fine print aka the rules for using the gift card say one card per purchase. There is nothing on currency limiting how many you can use at once. You may not think its fair but it is a condition of the gift cards.

Many years ago I was with someone who had an Ikea gift card. They could not find anything in the store they wanted and wanted cash. After watching them go back and forth for 30 minutes, I stepped in and asked this:

If I take this gift card and buy something for the full amount, am I able to get a cash refund if I went straight from the checkout and came back to you?

They said yes while looking at me like I was retarded. I followed up their "yes" with the following statement:

Why don't you save us both the trouble of me finding the heaviest thing in the store, buying it and then asking you to move it a bunch of times by just giving me the cash value of the card? It was followed by a blank look so I took the card and started to walk away. Not even 2 seconds later, I was called back and was given the cash refund.

It helps to ask about their refund policy regardless how the items were paid for, then proceed to waste their time in a demeaning way if they feel the need to waste your time.

Demeaning = buy the lowest price items that are spread all over the store with no return restrictions and then ask for a refund - one transaction at a time so it holds up everybody behind you making them lose customers in the process.

Nice story, but completely different.

In your story, the gift card was purchased from Ikea for the face value. In the guitar center scenario, the vouchers were purchased from a third party contracted by guitar center for marketing purchases for less than face value. For your $100 voucher GC gets about $25.

Don't be a dick. Accept the restrictions.

The only other option I could think of is to sell them at a discounted price, which with all the fraud and how careful people are now a days, could be very difficult, and you then lose money.
