Has anyone ever hit the gas instead of the brakes before? I've heard this excuse being used to many times, but if it's happened to me it was only for a split second. It seems to me that only drunkards and geriatrics would hit the gas instead and stay on it long enough to cause trouble.

Friends in high places. Aren't there drive-thru liquor stores in New Orleans. I gotta get myself out there.

Not only drive through liquor stores, but drive through daquiri shops as well. You drive up, order a drink, and they hand it to you in a styrofoam cup with a plastic lid on it. It doesn't count as an open container unless you poke a hole in the lid with your straw...

I used to step on the brake pedal thinking it was the clutch. Switching back and forth between my car and others used to be a pain.

In defense of what seem to be our rather backwards seeming ways, I must say that for such a drinking city I rarely ever hear of drunk driving problems. Unlike other cities, we allow for neighborhood bars just about everywhere, which means you can walk to your favorite watering hole rather than drive all the way across town to get drunk. It's a much more responsible way to get trashed, methinks.

Meaning you only have to drive about a block to get to a bar?

You will definitely enjoy it. You won't want to move there (no surf), but you'll fit right in, it's definitely relax style.

As a former native, I do miss quite a bit about the place (technically, I'm not from New Orleans, but from the same nearby city that mike v_s resides in now), but not enough to ever move back permanently. Just can't take the weather, the FLATNESS of it, and the politics is just.......no matter where you live in the US, no matter how bad you think it is, you have no idea how byzantine it can be.

My old man used to comment that there should be a US consulate in New Orleans. I think he's right.

But the music and the food...sigh...it don't get no better, no where. That I truly miss....
