OK, this story seriously makes me sick to my stomach. I get chills just posting this thread. Since we are all musicians, I wanted to post this here so y'all can send up some good thoughts for Ed....

Seattle street 'Tuba Man' dies after beating.

As a regular at Seattle sporting events, I spoke to Ed quite a bit. I was usually cheering for the other team, so he would stop me and give me a hard time. He wasn't mean to me, just good natured ribbing like we all do around here. I often thought he would be a good contributor to our sports threads. He was a great guy. I am totally going to miss Ed. I can barely get through this post without breaking into tears.

I know a LOT of senseless killings happen in the world every day. But this man.....he was the most harmless man I know. He was an awesome musician, and such a genuinely friendly man. To think a bunch of young boys took the time to beat to death a totally harmless old man playing a tuba makes me sick to my stomach. Two of the kids in question are 15 years old.......my gosh, I need to go throw up I am so upset about it. I normally never wish such ill will on another human....but I hope these boys rot in hell.

-Mike

That's a very sad story and I'm really sorry to hear it, especially as you're clearly upset about it Mike (and understandably so).

I heard about that over here on the radio. While I never seen or experienced Tuba Man, it is a sad and sickening story all the same.

I remember seeing him play in front of Key Arena. Funny guy, meant no one any harm.

Seattle can be a really brutal town. In the 80s/90s there was a slow minded gentle guy - can't remember his name (Richard?) - who would beg for change at ques for shows downtown playing trumpet and kicking a coffee can full of change. People would absolutely pelt this guy with change, throwing as hard as they could. Ill. I mean, doesn't the person have a hard enough life?

The more I get to know ppl, the more I like my dogs

Hi.

Horrible, absolutely horrible. RIP, Ed.

Hope they catch the other three as well and punish them. My belief is that if someone is capable of sensless slaughter, they're beyond hope.

Regards
Sam

children or not, a bullet in their heads would do them some good.

...yeah, i know its harsh, but so is beating a 53 year old man who doesn't hurt anyone to death for no reason.

Prayers out to Ed.

And I hope those little 15 year old bastards get slung in jail. Some may say they're kids but I was 15 only 5 years ago and I knew the difference between right and wrong.

Damn stories like this burn me up. Put those kids in a jail courtyard and let them see how it is to get the **** knocked out of them for no reason.

Yep, they're kids. But when they gang up on a friendly old man to kick and punch him while he is curled up in the fetal position on the ground likely beggin for mercy, even as the police arrive on scene, they know what they are doing.

**I added the part in myself about begging for mercy. The rest of what I typed is in the police report.

I've lived here in Seattle since 1961........almost my whole life, that this horrible incident took place here saddens me. The city has changed alot over the years, not for the better in many ways. R.I.P. Ed.

+1 and +1

We let kids get away with murder (ironic pun intended) just based on the fact that they are kids.

500 years ago 15yr olds were going to war and starting families so don't tell me they shouldn't be held responsible for thier actions just like an adult.

This is an effin travesty!!!!!!!!

RIP to Tuba Man and prayers to all that knew and loved him.

They ever find these chuckleheads?

What a waste of human matter.

edit:

Nothing but petty thieves. They robbed two 17 year olds earlier that night.
