Depends what you're looking for. You can never go wrong with a weber.I Bought the Genesis E-320, and if I could I'd sleep with it

As a former employee of a Weber dealer, I wouldn't consider buying anything BUT a Weber in that price range. The recent models are top notch quality, and their service is great (missing a part? they mailed it to the shop a few days later)

I assembled 2-3 a week, and had never felt they were cheaply built.

I'd just suggest making the upgrade to stainless steel grates and flavorizer bars, definitely worth the extra few bucks. And whatever you get, be sure to get a cover, as the weather will significantly shorten the life of your grill.

BTW, I've been using a Weber Genesis Silver B for the last eight years with no problems, I also have a Weber kettle grill, and a Weber portable propane grill for tailgating.

^ this man speaks true. My granparents got my dad a gas grill for his birthday 4 years ago. I was a co-conspirator, and it was a success. He's used it happily for 4 years, and just used it tonight for some buffalo steaks.

I was going to say 'looking in to a new gas grill' and you've got a good chance of getting you eyebrows burned!

My father-in-law has recently purchased an 'infra-red' grill. Infra-red in that the burners are mounted vertically at front and back of the grill below the grate. You fill up a lower tray with water before you start grilling. I wasn't convinced at first as you cook in a different way that you would on a direct heat grill, but I'm sold now! It barbecues the best chicken I've had off a grill and the steak's aren't half bad either. It's very easy to undercook stuff, but to date neigh near impossible to overcook. Great for veggies too.

My old 'Beefeater' grill (bought in OZ) is just about on it's last legs and I'm seriously considering going 'infra-red' for my next.

Did he mention a price range? There are great grills at any price range. It for the majority falls on the owner for maintennance, cleaning and protecting.

I have the same "Charmglow" grill I bought at Home Depot 5 years ago for less than 400 bucks, still works like a charm because I take care of it.

By that price range, I mean anything besides Viking/other professional caliber grills.

For the money, IMO, you can't beat a Weber, unless there are specific features you're looking for, or can get a discount somewhere.

I have a Vermont Castings which has been excellent for the last 6 seasons.

I have it plumbed to Natural Gas. I highly recommend this hook up. Never run out of fuel. I use it all year. Which here in Michigan means in the snow and freezing for several months a year.

I looked at some Weber grills on the Home Depot and Lowes websites and nearly crapped. Even an entry level Weber Gas grill is $300. I've had a Char Broil gas grill for the last 8 years. Works fine, and I think I paid $125 for it new with a tank. The spark lighter crapped out after two years, and I've replaced the flavor bar once (thick sheet metal works great and is far cheaper than what Lowes wanted for a factory piece), but all in all it's been a decent grill.

Real men with lot's of time do charcoal... You want to get it done in a hurry, do the Weber. They aren't cheap but they last and last and... They cook very evenly.

I do charcoal for smoke, gas for everything else.

Thanks again. OK more details what I have now is a 10 roughly year old Charbroil Precision Flame 8000 it has a u shaped burner so I have a choice of back, front or both burners. There is no way to cook something of any size off direct heat. + the inside components need to be replaced again. I have a nice Charcoal smoker so am set there. It is just my wife and I so I don't need anything huge but would like it large enough to do a rack of ribs if I want. I don't want to go much over $400 so that eliminates the pro grills. I do want burners that run front to back so I can have several heat areas on the grill. I like my steaks on the rare side and my wife is more medium.

Hopefully that gives you all a beter idea?

So tell me more about the infrared system?
This one is a bit over $300 at Lowes and is very interesting.

Weber. I nearly blew my face off when my stater went out on my cheap one and I lit it iwth a lighter. I went out and bought a Weber. 8 years later it still lights up on the first push. I've gotten many comments on how evenly the food is cooked. After using cheap grills all his life, my dad bought a Weber after he borrowed mine a few times for big parties. And to clean it up I just put the stuff in the oven and turn the oven on clean for 2 hours.

The link doesn't work.

Your situation sounds quite familiar.

About 3 years ago I replaced an 11 year old Kenmore cast aluminum grill. The painted steel parts of the old grill were rusting badly and shedding all over my new deck.

I was on a budget; I went with a Charmglow (Home Depot Brand). You can read about my experience and see some pretty pictures here. Lots of great info there on my experience.

I got my grill severely discounted because it was bottom rated in Consumer Reports and the end of the season so there were many leftovers. Now is that time again. If you read a lot of the BBQ discussion boards online you'll find that they have low regard for Consumer Reports ratings on grilles. However, "Joe Public" thinks CU is the Bible, so if something's low rated it doesn't sell. I ended up getting a SMOKING deal (pun - ha ha) on my grill and I couldn't be happier with it.

Take good care of it if you get something nice. I love the porcelain coated cast iron grates, particularly for charing chicken and steak - but they require maintennce (oil before and after every use, never use wire brushes to clean).

Just FYI you'll wreck your oven using the clean cycle. We had the circuit board fail on ours and the repair guy who came out advised us that the clean cycle was the culprit. The companies have to put a clean cycle in their ovens in order to have the "feature" checked, but they stress ovens horribly. YMMV.
