Looking for a new mattress

Sign in to disble this ad
I'll be buying one soon along with the motorized bottom (I hope) and are looking for opinions on what is available.

So far I'm have a mindset to look at the memory foam -opedics. Every store has one. I'm pretty sure the tempur-pedics are too much money. Then there is a good old regular mattress.

A poll to make things more fun and exciting. Or something like it.

Any opinion is fine but let me know if you own one.Why one was chosen over the other.

Thanks,
Matt.

Mattresses are a very personal choice. Just go out and lay down on as many as you can. Lay on them in whatever sleeping position you normally sleep in as well as flat on your back/belly/side etc.
Don't worry about buying one the first day you go out testing them. And don't try to price match between stores... often times, each store has it's own "model" from the manufacturer, even though the build of the bed is identical.

Its been really hot the last few nights, and in response my wife has said she wishes we had a waterbed. I said "No, honey, waterbeds suck, they wobble too much, and actually, to me, seem to warm up more thann a regular matress..." She says "No, not like that, a bed, where you lay in water." I told her should could sleep in the bathtub if she liked.

AFAIC- Mattresses "brands" are built just slightly different enough to be unique to each manufacturer. Just get one that you find comfortable enough AND is within your budget.

Good luck!!! Perhaps you can give us all a "review" later!

I'll be replacing a water-bed. I've had it a long time and it can be the most comfortable thing ever, but it (and think the newer ones) don't cool off. they do heat up. I can tell you they are not wobbly at all. Now a bed made of water? She might be on to something.

Be sure to take a good sniff first. I know of people who have had to return both regular and memory foam mattresses because of fumes. I will stick to thermarest pads since I am mobile.

My waterbed mattress is 27 years old (go Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval!) but I've been getting worried about this...

My parents got a new mattress a while back. Slept on it for a week or so and REALLY hated it. But apparently they had a 30 day window in which to decide and make one exchange. Luckily they liked the one they exchanged it for. Might want to look into this just in case.

The most comfortable bed BY FAR we have ever had was a SOMA waterbed -has 5 or 6 tubes filled with water in a foam case. No sloshing, adjustable firmness. It ended up in our guest room and everyone that stayed just absolutely loved it. After nearly 20 years I had to dump it because I was worried the tubes were getting old and would crack. After trying several conventional mattresses I am ready to find another one, they ARE available online. There is NOTHING as comfortable.

Did not like Temperpedic matteresses. If you move around at all at night, you will find you have sunk in and cannot move without waking. They are also HOT.

Sleep number beds are a HUGE scam. The mattress, while filled with air, is not resilient. it is a HARD bag, if you don't get the super expensive version with the 6" foam pad on top it will be very uncomfortable.

Foam mattresses can be a good alternative. They make them with varying densities of foam for real support. Check out IKEA for these.

Good Luck!

I love love love our Tempurpedic. I was skeptical at first but I've loved it since the first night. I have to travel to hotels and I hate sleeping anywhere else. I'm a very light sleeper and usually tossed and turned and I had a very high end Dux before this. Now I barely wake up but maybe once a night. I also don't get the "they are hot" thing as I've never had a problem. I guess with the air conditioning on I just never notice.

We didn't get the cheapest one since they were too thin, but as with all beds it's all up to you.

We recently got a 14" memory foam mattress. LOVE THAT THING! It was like $700 at overstock.com, so don't pay $3000 one and get ripped off.
