Looking for a nice lightweight rain jacket (camping, hiking)

I am in the market for a nice rain shell. I have looked at brands such as patagonia, marmot, mountain hardwear ect. I do a lot of outdoor activities and I would like one before spring hits. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just bought a thinner waterproof jacket from Meijer for 27 bucks. It keeps you warm and dry.

Paramo and Vaude are names to look at. I go mountain climbing a lot, and I wear Vaude in the summer and Paramo in the winter. Paramo is pricey but it's the best stuff around. I have a waterproof jacket at pants that I wore when I climbed Helvellyn in the Lake District, United Kingdom recently.

Around $100, maybe more. If its a product that will last a life time, i have no problem paying more.

Hmm, my Paramo was £200, so you could end up spending a lot to get one...although IME they are the best, even better than my 3 season Vaude jacket.

I recently bought myself one of these http://www2.thenorthface.com/opencms...0D&language=en

Absolutely love it as with every North Face product i own. Includes a zip in feature, so if you want to insulate it more you can add a North Face fleece.

I would suggest you go an REI store and look for a good hooded nylon parka with a Gore Tex tag. WL Gore (the company that makes the proprietary waterproof breathable film) is very picky. They test everything. Most every brand REI carries, (Patagonia, Marmot,North Face, REI, etc) have lifetime warranties. Expect to spend about 150$ on up depending upon the additional features you want. I have a Marmot Parka I've had for 15 years, still works great.

Check out http://www.masseysoutfitters.com. Back right before Christmas I spent about a Grand in there for some new jackets and fleeces. A few North Face, a few Mountain Hardware, etc. Great store with great customer service. A quick glance through the "Sale" section on their site shows some Marmot, Kavu, Mountain Harware - all the brands you seem to be looking at - for right at your price range.

Don't know how quickly you need it, but I would wait for a decent jacket to pop up on www.steepandcheap.com. I have bought Marmot and NorthFace jackets off that site that were marked down 60-70%.

Reebok makes these really nice lightweight jackets. They have this feature called "System Control". I bought a Pittsburgh Steelers one, and it is great for wind and rain.

REI, EMS. If you have an EMS, their store brand is good.
