Looking for a point and shoot camera... advice?

Sign in to disble this ad
So my grandpa has requested a point and shoot camera with a few specific criteria. I know next to nothing about P&S cameras aside from they're not as much fun as SLRs (Canon EOS 350 here ). I've tried browsing through em but all P&Ss look the same to me. Can anyone help me out?

What my grandpa wants is:

- Ability to take plain AA batteries, e.g. no proprietary batteries
- Ability to imprint a date stamp on photos
- SD card compatibility
- Price range of $300 or less

Can anyone who knows their point n' shoots lend a hand? Maybe suggest a couple models to point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Kodak cameras ARE VERY user friendly and we bought one for a grandparent last year.

The software is easy to use too. The picture quality isn't as good as a decent Nikon or Canon but unless you are picky or print less than 5x7 you won't notice anyway.

If he is computer literate these are REALLY good cameras for the money.

SD card, AA batteries, takes great pictures and as I read somewhere has the most amount of manual controls for a sub $200 camera out there. It also takes great videos as well!

P&S come in many different sizes:
You might want to check out reviews on epinions.com

Here's one that reasonably priced:

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. Is a built-in datestamp a pretty common feature on P&S cameras? I really know nothing about P&S

Datestamp has been standard on most Point and Shoots over $100 since the late 90's. Digital Cameras pretty much save the date and time the picture was taken as part of the data file.

I have a background with 35mm SLRs but am waiting on prices to come down a little more on Digital SLRs. In the meantime I use a Nikon Coolpix S210. 8 megapixels and takes fine pictures.

~The battery is proprietary, but it also rechargeable (charger included). Unfortunately digital point and shoots tend to eat through batteries especially alkaline. Lithium lasts a bit longer.

~Takes SD
~Under $200. I think they may be way cheap ATM for the holidays.
