Looking for recommendations (cell phone + music player)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everybody.

After being a long-time cell phone hater, this is my second year of owning one thanks to one of my best friends. I must admit that, while I still can leave home without it, I definitely need it. The thing is: I used to carry my iPod Classic and I also need it, but I stopped taking it with me because I don't want so much stuff in my pockets. So I'm looking for a solution to this "problem". A good all-in-one cell phone/media player that can hold lots of music and video files. BUT...

...I perfectly know that the obvious choice is an iPhone. Actually, last week I had my first (sort of) prolonged contact with one and I also must admit that I'm obsessed with one. The guys from Apple are true geniuses which definitely know how to create cool devices that make you feel happy. But an iPhone is expensive and I don't feel like spending such amount of money on a cell phone. So here's my definitive question: Is there in the market a good cell phone that also allows me to carry lots of music and videos (and play them smoothly, of course) and that is NOT that expensive? Of course I'm not looking for the cheapest stuff out there, but 700 USD plus my monthly plan fee looks like a lot of money for me to spend on a cell phone, not to mention that thieves avidly look for top of the line mobiles and I could become a potential victim. Of course, I don't lose sight of the fact that maybe an iPhone is the only real solution for my needs, but I want to get informed about the existence of cheaper decent options.

Thank you for reading! I highly appreciate your suggestions.

When I renewed my Verizon contract I got a Droid Incredible for free. I use it as an mp3 player, and have considered using one of the synthesizer apps at live shows.

Android systems are cheap and have a variety of models and have good music players, I heard the same with the new Windows Phones.

Hi Alvaro . . . your iPod Classic is 160 GB, right?

There's no way that even a 32GB iPhone could give you "enough" storage for music and videos!

FWIW, I have a 32GB iPhone 4 AND an iPod Classic in my pocket ALWAYS . . . . . .

EDIT: plus the in-ear phones/mic that I bought at the Apple Store online . . .

EDIT2: you really should carry the iPod Classic with you, too . . . the cellphone that you already have doesn't need to be replaced IMO.

I have my Droid, and I have a SubSonic server running at my house that I can stream all of my music from. Over 400GB of audio at my fingertips. If I'm going somewhere where I won't have cell signal (which is rare on VZW... only seem to hit it when flying ), then I just load up my microSD card with a few albums and have that to tide me over.
