Looking for scholarship resources

My daughter will be going to college next year. As most of you know, it is very costly. She made a 29 on her ACT and hopefully she can get an academic scholarship. I guess what I would like is to hear your recent experiences, challenges, etc.

fastweb.com

a site full with free scholarship info. Another thing is: If a site wants you to pay to get info don't do it. You should be able to find plenty to all info for free.

My sister made the same score, and received the next to highest level academic scholarship at her college (I went to the same one, got the same level with my 1430...back when the SAT was out of 1600). The only higher one offered was for National Merit Finalists (PSAT)...if only I had known how important the PSAT was, I would have studied...

Most financial aid offices will have either links to scholarships on their website, or fliers in their office. I find that the fliers are usually for those oddball scholarships, most likely the highly specific local ones. What is she studying? Sometimes, professional organizations will offers scholarship opportunities to undergrads based on their majors.

And I'm sure you know about the FAFSA...not quite scholarships, but a good source for loans. I got the subsidized Stafford to cover the rest of my tuition...max amount awarded is based on the information you provide them about income, etc.

Fastweb.com is a good place to start the general scholarship search.

Does your daughter know what schools she is interested in? State universities generally offer great scholarships based on academics. Many state schools may offer her a half tuition scholarship or more.

As long as she is in the top 10 percent of her class, she will be set in regards to state universities.
