Finally got round to watching it the other night. What a film! I saw the trailers for it ages ago but never actually got round to watching it. I realise it is tarted up into a "hollywood" story but I just had to download Dogtown and Z-boys and to be honest it just made the film even better!

I also had watched Riding Giants just before christmas completely unaware that Stacy Peralta had produced it too!

I was born in 1980 so the whole Zepher team thing was a bit before my time but I did have an Alva board when I was a kid and my first board was one of the little "sidewalk surfboard" style ones so it all brought back memories for me.

If you like Skating and have not seen this movie GO AND RENT IT NOW!!

Well I watched the film first then the documentary but I took a lot of the film with a pinch of salt as I realised there had to be heroes and baddies in films like this. The kids they cast were great and from the documentary it looks like the film was pretty dang close.

Check out One California Day too. It kind of touches upon a lot of the surfing culture that is unique to California as well. I would imagine that it would be interesting even to people who don't surf.

I might just do that I have never surfed before and its been years since I was on a skateboard but I have massive respect for the pioneers of any sport like this.

Did I mention Mitch Hedberg is in Lords of Dogtown and that they dedicated the film to him as he had passed before it was released. Its only a fleeting cameo but still caught me off guard.

yeah, I love Lords of Dogtown and the Z-Boys doc. IMO, they did a real good job of condensing it into a hollywood movie but still the retaining the feel and attitude of the whole thing. I was on the other side of the country but I began getting Skateboarder magazine in '76 or '77 and it became my lifeline to that scene. It was the only way to get info. on skating then and I memorized every single issue. When the Dogtown articles started, those guys became my heros. They were it.

So it was great to see it brought to a larger audience. And the acting was superb, the guys who played, Adams, Alva, Peralta and Skip were terrific. Plus all the cameos were hilarious.

It's a shame Jeff Ho was not depicted or involved - for whatever reason.

It brought back so many memories

Yup, good flick. Now go out and get yourself a board and some Old Skool Vans.

I saw Dogtown a few months back as well, & agree its definitely worth checking out, if you were ever into skateboarding at all. I used to ride on Peralta/Bones wheels!

I haven't seen the Lords of Dogtown but I have the Z-boys doc on DVD and it's great. I actually still get on my board every now and then but with 2 kids, wife, house, job, and bass it's tough to find the time. I'll have to rent Lords soon to get the stoke back!

Oh yea, if your cable provider carries Fuel TV I highly recommend it, nothing but skating, snowboarding, BMX, surfing, FMX, etc. Most of it is obviously new/current stuff (read: uber-technical) but they play a lot of the old school stuff too, Animal Chin was on not too long ago!

As far as skateboarding goes, I have a sector nine cruiser. I can do a power slide on it if I want, but other than that, I just use it when I'm hanging with my son at the park.
