Loss of a great friend

Sign in to disble this ad
The family dog died this morning. Her name was Olivia. She was a 11yr Golden Retriever. She had surgery for removal of foriegn objects from her stomach <she would eat anything>. While undergoing the surgery the discovered her spleen was cancerous and removed it. We got her back Tuesday and she was a spry little girl. This is hands down the smartest dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She was loving and great with everyone. Never met a stranger. Her favorite things were her tennis ball and to be rubbed...alot. My little dog was very attached to her. He was her beau. My daughters are crushed, but the hardest to take is my fiance'. She has had this dog from 7 weeks. Trained her and loved her. As for me, she embodied everything I have ever wanted in a dog. She will be very missed. Miss her now as I write this with tears in my eyes. We knew we would not have her but for a few more years, however, I never expected to lose her today. Thank you for taking the time to share this with me. We have decided that in the near future to adopt a Goldie rescue in honor of this wonderous dog. She was my "Sweet Baby". Rest in peace and enjoy the place where arms never tire of throwing tennis balls or full body rubs. God bless you, you marvel of unconditional love.

Found this for you. Hope it brings a little comfort during this time...

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this, the last battle, can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree,
It is a kindness you do to me.

Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you,
Who has to decide this thing to do;

We've been so close,we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I'm with you bud! My Yellow Lab is 14,diabetic,had 2 episodes of vertigo last year, and still going somehow.I know he's not going to be around much longer,so I'll be in you shoes some time soon. Go to a rescue center and pick up a puppy. That always makes you fell better!

Dang, that got me all misty. I suspect I have that coming in the next couple of years with my wonderful little mutt.

I hope he fools me and hangs in for a long time!

Sorry for your loss...it's something that only time heals.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Our 12 year old Golden Brisco died
in June. I know how you feel. I think about my boy every day.
This is Brisco a couple of years ago.
