Sorry, chaps, women are better parkers - Motoring News - Motoring - The Independent

It is a stereotype that has spawned countless jokes and become a truth universally acknowledged by men across the land – women are the least proficient gender when it comes to parking a car.

But a study suggests this thinking should be put into reverse, and that women are the ones who should be handed the keys in a tight spot.

The car parks operator NCP analysed the parking of 450 drivers using CCTV records and surveyed 2,000 more, looking at technique, accuracy and time taken to complete the manoeuvre to create a "parking coefficient". Out of a total of 20, women received an average mark of 13.4, compared with 12.3 for men.

Women were rated higher for using an appropriate speed, having a good "pre-parking pose" to ensure a successful manoeuvre, and a higher percentage of female drivers finished centrally in their chosen parking space – 53 per cent, compared with 25 per cent of men.

Neil Beeson, a driving instructor who helped to analyse the results, said: "The views need to change. A little bit more caution is needed on the part of men, in the same way female drivers have shown."
Outrage!

Come to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and say women are better drivers/parkers. Well, "parking" with women here can be very good, but as far as drivers, not so much.

anyone with half a brain can collect data and interpret it to support their desired outcome. I think it's sad that somebody had nothing better to do than watch people park cars...

My girlfriend is a fantastic parker. Of course, she drives a Beatle, but the times she's driven my car, she's parked better than I do.

Funny, my husband and my brother have both been the -cause- of car accidents and parking fender benders.

Me? Nope.

Men. Always feel the need to be the "better" gender .

All girlfriends, (past and present) my sister and even my mother have all found it absolutely necessary to point out parking spaces when riding with me. Of course those are spaces that fit the smaller vehicles they drive, not spaces that would easily accommodate my truck. I've also noticed that those spaces seem to be more obvious to them because they aren't paying attention to the pedestrians, shopping carts, and other drivers.
My truck is dent free and I don't usually have to walk very far across a parking lot.

Neil Beeson is whipped!

As someone who drove an F100 for years because it was smaller and got better mileage than my car, I've got to say that most guys driving trucks these days haven't a clue how to park. Scan the average parking lot and you will find them across lines, sticking out or taking up 2 spaces.

If you don't have a single scuff in the bed of your truck, you don't need one.
