The loudest noise I ever heard in my life...

I just got back from a trip to Belgium where I took this little clip with my phone. It's a shame that there's no way to experience this sound without actually being there. I love F1!

I've been around alcohol fueled supercharged big blocks running full out, on stage with some big acts at arena gigs, in a guitar center in full wannabe wankfest, within 100 feet of a B17 and a B29 starting up on a cold morning.

Loudest thing I've ever heard was my then 2yr old boy screaming his lungs out. I have permanent hearing damage from that.

A pic of me and my little sis at the event - note the bass clef cap.

Thanks, Fassa. I'm loving the Team Red Bull cap I bought for my sister. It cost way more than mine, but she's worth it. Coolest sister on TB.

Cool Bill. I went the the US Grand Prix a few times at Watkins Glen -- F1 cars were crazy loud in the 60s and early 70s too.

I'd love to see F1. I've been to Indcar a few times but it seems to me the F1 are louder. I still love the pressure wave Top Fuel dragsters produce though. It's not the loudest, but it feels AWESOME

Hi.

Never been to a F1 show, but the distance does bad things to the experience. At least that's what I've heard. And the physics back that up.

Absolutely the loudest I've experienced was standing in the press area during a Top Fuel final run, about 10 or so meters from the left line "vehicle". The burn out zone was about 5 meters away, but since they did the burn outs separately, it wasn't that bad. The mild nitro shower however, was.

One could say that the sound can really be felt as well as heard after that .

Regards
Sam

I'll check that out when F1 comes to town. In the mean time my loudest to date was either a King's X concert where the bass was making my teeth rattle, Badlands' Jake E Lee with 2 full Marshall stacks dimed, or being in a generator room with 4X 750KW diesel gensets running at the same time.

Well, Sam, you can take it from the personal experience of this particular physics professor that 24 of those cars redlining for the start when you're right next to them in a stand with a steel roof and back bouncing the echoes around is LOUD, believe me. You gotta have been there to get it.

...I what, I don't even...

That seems freakishly loud! The reaction time those driver's have even at the start when they begin trying to over-take each other is astonishing!

CART (real indycars) were pretty loud back in the late 90's early 2000's, turbocharged 1000hp engines on superspeedways were sweet, had the chance to see a minard F1 car at long beach a few year ago and it was pretty loud, but the loudest noise I have ever heard was THUNDER striking a tower not far from where I used to live.

Bill, I don't believe I've ever seen a pic of you before. You look a bit like David Gilmour.

NASCAR is similar but a different arrangement of notes/sounds and you are usually up close enough to smell metal that is so hot it is about to melt(exhaust systems).
It has made me desire one of these for my wife's van and our other vehicles...for fun and when some bonehead pulls up next to you with BASSBOY BOOM on so loud your head hurts:

are F1 cars really louder than TF Dragsters? I don't think so, but I've never been to a Formula race before, so I wouldn't know. I always just thought Drag Racing was the loudest of all the motorsports...

There's nothing louder than when the lead singer gets feedback, while you are standing right in front of on of the ear level 2x10 PA speakers.

Funny you should say that, because my guitar playing sounds nothing like him.
