RIP.

I had to look him up to know who he was though. On his wikipedia it says he was born when he was 84: "July 6, 1924 (age 84)"

Oh, Louis was cool. When I was in junior high school he come to give a drumming demonstration for those of us in the music program. That was a really enlightening experience for me. In the past few years I did sound a couple times for the James Harman Band, and the drummer played this really cool vintage drum kit that once belonged to Louis Bellson.

Back in the late 70s or early 80s he did some really great bebop albums with a band that included Ted Nash Jr. and Blue Mitchell. Those are some of my faves in my jazz collection.

without him, death metal would have never been the same. RIP dude. He influenced drumming in all styles.
