So long story short I got busted on the light rail withour a ticket. Freaked out I lied about who I was but then admtted I was lying and told the truth about my identity. He said it was a felony t do that bu is that true? If its a misdemeanor t lie to a cop then how is it felony for rt?

If that were true, I'd assume you'd be in jail right now, no?

The ticket offenses say no ticket it has the penal code for trespass which is accurate and it also says false id on it which may have to do with me not having my id on me or it could also be from my panicked lie. But he didn't place me under arrest or anything like that but he was threatening me a lot. So I don't know

OP, save taking a shortcut in life for when you really need one, not when you merely want one.

The value in trying to get by without choosing to take shortcuts is that one will have to learn many new things to make work-arounds work--which in turn reduces the need to take shortcuts...

Patriot Act? The Feds take public transit security very seriously these days, Bro.

But the patriot act was geared toward terrorism and prejudice. Don't see wher it says lying is a felony.

Do well in school too. Judges & parents like good report cards.

Doing some volunteer work in one's community is an effective way to spruce up one's image and network with interesting and caring people who are motivated by more than self interest. We are often defined by the company we choose to keep...

But I have my vocationa instructor who was a cop for 30 years vouching for my character becquse I refused a major bribe and prevented a crime from happening on federal property so I think I'm good

Good lad!

All you gotta do now is polish your proofreading and you'll be right as rain.

Cops lie all the time, either deliberately or through ignorance of the laws. Rent-a-cops are worse.

That being said, I agree with the "don't commit crimes for stupid reasons" school of thought. Also, cost benefit analysis. "If I commit crime A (let's presume it's a mala prohiba not mala in se crime) what are chances I will be caught, what would the consequences of that be, and what would I gain from committing it?" So jaywalking on a deserted street to save a long walk in the rain might be worthwhile: low chance of getting busted, small consequences, and good reward. But riding a rail car without a ticket might not be.

Being able to identify who's riding is a big part of it. If you're lying you could possibly be a terrorist trying to conceal your identity. Actually, lying about you identity will almost always lead to trouble. Not a good thing to do.

Probably should clarify. Lying about your identity to an officer.
