Mac, Boot Camp/Windows I'm lost

Sign in to disble this ad
So I got a Mac a while back and love it...however haven't been able to spend a lot of time with it. Right before we got it, we had bought a Crayola art type thing for the girls to use on the old Toshiba laptop that crapped out. Soooo...I keep telling the girls Daddy will get the new computer fixed so they can use their Crayola thingy.

So as I understand I need Boot Camp. Do I then need a copy of Windows or will the Crayola thingy work with just Boot Camp?

And yes I've searched some Mac threads but I get lost in the geekiness. Seems to be a drawback of the Macworld

You need Boot Camp (which comes with OS 10.5 (Leopard)) and a copy of Windows.

Ah. Now I see I have version 10.5.7, where do I find the BootCamp app. I don't see it in the applications folder. How much is a copy of XP running these days?

XP Home Edition still retails for $200, but I'm sure you can find it with a steep discount.

Boot Camp Assistant can be found in the Utilities subdirectory of your Applications folder.

If you are still unsure of how to find Boot Camp, search in Spotlight for Boot Camp. Under the applications category, you will see Boot Camp Assistant. Once you have a copy of Windows, just follow the directions in the Assistant.

Your program might run under WINE, which is a Windows emulator:

I have successfully run many Windows program on a Linux machine using WINE. It's bad enough to pay money for one operating system. If you can get away with using WINE, then you don't have to pay for Windows.

An alternative is to try TuxPaint, which is free. My kids love it.
