So the newest mac OS is out and I'm just curious if anyone here is using it yet and their thoughts on it.
I'm thinking of upgrading but I'm a little hesitant since Snow Leopard has been rock solid for me and I have a four year old white macbook. Hard to justify upgrading something that works just fine, but then again it is only $30.
Yay? Nay?
Discuss.
And keep the windows vs apple to a bare minimum

i'll likely wait a bit to see whether lion will ever be available on hard copy, from what i gather now, it won't

I'll stick to Snow Leopard until someone come up with a solution.
On a sad note: my 8 year old G5 just died on me.
8 years of loyal service , that pretty good for a computer in these days.

| | | | I'm considering the upgrade as well. I have what I believe to be a '08 model white MacBook, it came with leopard and is currently running snow leopard.
Both have been solid OS's, I just don't know how far I can take it with the OS upgrades until it causes an issue.

There is no major release OS release (Windows or Mac) that ships perfect. Give it a few months and I'm sure it'll be schweet. Not saying that Lion is uber buggy or anything but I'd put money one Snow Leopard being faster and more stable for the time being.
A little off topic, is it just me or is does new OSX release and Mac software product have less color than it's previous incarnation. Two or three versions ago, the iTunes sidebar (with the playlists and such) had colored icons, now it doesn't. OSX Lion's Finder sidebar has gone greyscale as well. Lions highlight (when you're in menus) is deeper and less vibrant. And I'm noticing it other places too but those are the instances that immediately come to mind. Apple, please don't take away the pretty colors .

Stuff takes longer to load, but once it's loaded it seems to run faster. The multiple desktops work well as does the 'two finger' swiping on my touch pad (Macbook Pro).
Worth $30 IMHO. |

Don't know if it's a placebo effect, but I think it's definitely faster running apps. One gotcha is that the scroll effect on the magic mouse is now reversed to mimic the iOS swipe behavior. |

Lots of new gesture options on the track pad. And Mission Control looks like it could be helpful.
Seeing that it's not my main computer, I don't have a lot on it. The only thing that didn't work was a really old ProTools driver (I had it on there to use with an old Mbox). During the install process, the system says what it won't be compatible with. It puts that software in a separate directory.
It could be my imagination (or the new install just getting rid of some crap) but the computer seems to run a little faster.
I'd say it was worth the $30.
