Mac verses windows laptops

I am in the market for a new computer. I often post from my cell phone or use someone elses computer, like I am doing with this post.

I have always wanted a laptop but always went for desk tops. Its time I get a laptop.

I was looking at macs. I like the a lot of things about them. But the thing that turns me off is the price. Correct me if I am wrong, but the reason for they are pricey is because the Os operating system cannot be run on any type of computer.

My last computer was an old dinosaur, but it functioned well until a virus that got through the virus software undetected, finally took it down.

So i am looking into macs because for the most part they are pretty much immune to viruses.
I was also told that they are the best for recording and I am looking into doing some recording in the future.

Macs also seem to be virtually maitence free and run smoother than a windows pc.

But I would like to hear from mac users, users that got a mac and switched back to a windows pc and why.

Many reasons... mostly marketing has put it in the price bracket. And there are quite a few non-Macs that you can get OSX to install on (it's not legal though).

most part maybe... but not immune. I run AVG free on my Windows machines (XP pro and 7) and have been free from viruses forever.

like graphics... the Mac over PC edge was lost a decade ago. Either will do you fine.

I disagree... both can be glitchy and both can be smooth. Both need equal maintenance.

I have 5 old Macs (stored) and 5 PCs (running) in my house... having worked for Apple in the 90s I had steep discounts and bought a few. I ended up learning to support Windows while working for an ISP in the late 90s and when my newest Mac needed upgrading I had to choose between a $2500 mac or $400 worth of PC pieces to turn into a similarly spec'ed machine... I switched to PCs.

I have both a Macbook Pro and an iPad 2. I couldn't be happier. I was on an Acer PC my college gives all first year students, and hated it. I got another Mac and haven't looked back.

If you've got cash to burn and dig the simplicity go Mac and absolutely get AppleCare.

If you want the best power-to-price ratio your money can buy and are willing to take care of your machine, go PC. also, if you're a gamer, don't even look at Macs. We're getting a lot more games these days but the library pales in comparison, honestly.

I'm a mac guy myself... but mostly because the UI is smooth as hell and they look purty. Not having to deal with a PC style registry is nice too.
