MacBook Battery

Sign in to disble this ad
music related... i use my computer for music stuff.

i have a black 13" macbook purchased in 2006... the battery is shot!
though i have the protection package, the battery isn't covered, so apple wants me to cough up another $130 for a new battery.

i know that i am not alone in this issue, so i figured i would see if anyone has advice on how to resolve my problem for little or know?
clone products?
complain enough and you get a new battery?
fix battery?

That battery doesn't last all the long anymore? If that is the case it is because of keeping it plugged in all the time when it is on, so that battery ever goes through the cycle. Solution is to take out the battery whenever you are using it plugged in for an extended period of time, this goes for all laptops, not just macbooks. My dad has an IBM that wont even get through start up before it goes dead.

If you complain enough they should give you a new one.

Just keep it plugged in.

If that doesn't work (my wife's old toshiba laptop battery go so bad that the thing wouldn't turn on, even when plugged in), then just ditch the battery.

Other than that, prevention is the best cure. You need to run your machine unplugged, and the charge it to keep the battery going. Constantly charging is not good for the things.

so it sounds like you two are suggesting that i should plug it in only when charging the battery?
will this improve my battery life or is it proper battery maintenance for my next battery?

Thats pretty much the deal with all rechargable batteries, you want to let them drain completely before charging them, otherwise you are shortening the battery's life cycle.
