Well, I rented and watched it this evening and found it to be an enjoyable watch. While it didn't require any great intellectual powers of perception to enjoy it moved fast, had fun fight scenes and while it had a bit of a political message it never got preachy. Fun with no commitments. good stuff. But, Jessica Alba is still a babe and all that, but she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. Don't expect any Emmy nominations for her. OTOH, she does seem to have her head on her shoulders and she isn't in and out of rehab every six weeks, so it isn't all bad. I mean I don't expect Meryl Streep or Natalie Portman or anything but she has zero range of emotions when she expresses herself to the point where it is almost laughable.

Machete made me laugh, but I can't say I'd ever buy it.
However, while I disagree with you about Jessica Alba, I find your rant about her hilarious.

OTOH, I also saw the "Other Guys" last week. What a horrible excuse of a movie, not a laugh out loud moment in the movie. Starwars Attack of the Clones was a better comedy. Alba wasn't bad in "Good Luck Chuck". But if you did nothing but listen to her lines like by side from the two movies, you'd have a hard time convincing yourself she was playing a different part.

| | | | I LOVED that movie, it was one of those movies that was just an excuse to see semi-nude (and I think there were some fully-nude) women as well as plenty of violence with something that can only be described as "plot-esque". The thing with this movie, as well as a number of other exploitation movies, is that it KNEW that and just hammed it up all the way through. It also did have the obvious political message, which I guess it wasn't very preachy about. All in all, a great movie - big guns, big fights, and big jokes. |
