Thumbs down Madonna to do Super Bowl Halftime

UUUUUGH!!!

When I said "to do" I meant it. The article I read described her as a "pop legend". I don't think anyone has put together a longer career with less apparent discernible musical talent. While she has strung together a bunch of hits, has she ever written ONE GOOD SONG? Of course I can see how she got the gig, she's probably slept with half the players fathers. Maybe she can do a vocoder duet with Fergie and Rebecca Black and we can call the show three generations of pop suckiness.

Madonna: Super Bowl XLVI halftime gig possible, says report | The Music Mix | EW.com

You need to hear the Bill Frisell version of "Live To Tell" before you completely condemn her composig chops. Bill's a brilliant musician, sure, but there's no way he could have wrenched such exquisite beauty out of a tune if it was a stinking bag of poo...the material has some merit.

Great. At least this time around I'll feel like I can walk away from the TV at halftime and not feel that I'm missing something

looks like ill be out in the backyard discussing the merits of front throw vs side throw mowers.

Why can't they get a good younger rock band?

Foo Fighters? Kings of Leon? Buckcherry? Against Me!? Chili peppers? Metallica?

Chili Peppers would have been great for a half time show

She's written several iconic songs. "Live to Tell" is one of my favorite songs, ever. She was a giant star.... Probably the biggest female star in music history. She writes, she sings, she produces, she's headlined some of the biggest tours in history.

Now, she hasn't done any of this at the level you have, Burk. But, who can possibly live up to that standard.

Weak stuff, dude.

Having said all that, the idea of her halftime show bores the crap out of me. The NFL can't seem to get out of this "relevant 20 years ago loop" these days. The last one I enjoyed was Tom Petty, but that landed with a thud. U2 was amazing in 2002. MJ was awesome in '93. Prince was great in the rain (when was that?). Other than that.... meh

+1. Piss break / beer run.

"Live To Tell" is probably the best song Madonna ever performed, but it was written by Patrick Leonard with lyrics by Madonna.

"Live to Tell" is a pop ballad by American singer-songwriter Madonna. Originally written by Patrick Leonard for the soundtrack of the film Fire with Fire
I didn't say she never performed a good song, I said she never wrote a good song and I'll stand buy it.

As far as the biggest female star in pop history, I'll take Joni Mitchell or Carol King any day. Does Madonna even play an effin instrument? Could she sit down with a Piano or Guitar and preform one tune at a professional level? I doubt it. I've never seen it.

What I'll give he credit for is she was a talented dancer, she slept with the right executives and producers and she has a good stage presence and sense of image provided there is a big record company budget to cover up her glaring lack of any musical talent. It has been well known for years that all her vocal tracks had to be fixed "in the mix".

As far as your BS about me somehow not being qualified. How lame can one get? What makes you qualified to support her? How many big name tours have you played on? How many Grammys do you have? I play a couple of instruments competently, I have played with some exceptional artists and song writers who have more musical talent in their pinky than Madonna has a clue about. It is more for them that I get pissed at the nature of the pop music scene than myself.

She understands style, hires good productions people, uses a good budget, and gets the TMZ image thing. Those are commendable marketing skills. Not one of them is a reflection of musical skills or ability.

Cool. I like Madonna. I hope she does Starlight, Borderline, and Holiday. Takes me back to when I was in my early teens, great times.

I don't mind Madonna, I just don't see how this fits.

+1. Also, Buckcherry???? Furthermore, Kings of Leon blows and might walk off if their singer's drunk or a bird threatens them.

I enjoyed The Who, Tom Petty, and a few others. I even liked watching Fergie in her short shorts & boots.

But, just like the year they had Diana Ross, I'll be elsewhere during halftime this time, too.
