Makers Mark is good stuff, but I discovered Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon and 101 Rye. Whoa! Those are GREAT stuff.

I like Maker's Mark as a mixer, but I think it's too medicinal tasting straight. But I prefer Crown....

Wow that's weird Pacman, Crown is like the king of mixing whiskey. Most people including myself find it terrible as a sipping whiskey. At least in Canada that is...not sure about elsewhere. It's not even usually stocked at the bar.

I like Maker's straight. Wild Turkey isn't really my bag. I bought a bottle once and found the flavours unnecessarily harsh, although I liked the orange flavour undertone.

There are better drinks for the price other than Crown, I prefer seagram's 7 to it anyways and its cheaper and from the same company. I prefer Jameson straight. Now theres a mans drink...

Makers is pretty good. So are Knob Creek and Woodford. I got turned on to small batch bourbons a few years ago and have become a BIG fan...

Corner Creek
Black Maple Hill
Elmer T Lee
Rowan's Creek
Elijah Craig

There are a few others I can't recall at this late hour, but for the most part, I've come to enjoy bourbon more so than any other liquor.

one of my bandmates did this last year. he got all his "official" stuff and even made the appt to go down to kentucky and see "his" barrel.

don't recall how long it took, but it all happened in within a few months, certainly less than half a year. i could ask him, but i don't know the secret handshake so he may act like he doesn't know what i am talking about. now that he is an ambassador and all, he has somehow changed..... maybe you don't want to go down there....

I've never actually had it, but the name always sticks with me. It looks like it would drink well though.

As a Chef in Lexington KY, once upon a time, I used to do special dinners for the fine folks at Makers ... using Makers in my recipes ... fun times. (did the same with the local Samuel Adams folks)
... The best part was doing "unaged bourbon" shots (basically Moon Shine) after the dinners were over.

Makers is still my favorite Bourbon. Every winter I gather a bit more heat with my Kentuck Martini's (warmed Makers & Amaretto ... )
