I've had a 16gb iPhone 3g for about 3 months now, and I just bought the G1 (google) Android phone. Wondering if anyone else has made a similar switch, and what your thoughts are?
I would start by saying that I don't talk on the phone very much. So I tend to use my phone for other things more often. Unlimited data makes it easy to check email, or do quick web browsing on the go, or get directions and use GPS/maps to find my way around (I am directionally impaired...). Plus it's nice to have a decent mobile camera always with me. In those respects there is nothing 'wrong' with the iPhone.
But at the same time, I always feel a little strange whenever I'm using my iPhone in public. Like as soon as I pull it out, I feel like people are looking my way and thinking 'ooh look, he has an iphone'. There's just something about the whole aura around the iphone, it's image. And I've been starting to not like it because of that. Does anyone else feel this way, or am I just being crazy?
So anways, I bought a G1 Android phone (waiting for it to get here), and I'm going to see how I like it compared to the iPhone for a while. I like their whole 'open source' mentality, and I think Google is a great company with a lot of potential in this area. I like their approach to the home screen as well. More of a customizable 'desktop' style. Plus now that Shazam is available for Android, I think it can do everything that I used my iPhone for.
Ah, I love technology. Any thoughts?
