Question Malware warning???

Sign in to disble this ad
I just clicked the link at the top of the OT page " Off Topic Forum Rules: READ BEFORE YOU POST" and my AV software kicked out a malware warning about a gzip file. Have no idea why a gzipped file would be on a wiki style page unless maybe the page had been hacked

Appears Avast had a bad dat file released this morning. my comp eventually started flagging almost every site as evil. Just updated again. Hopefully this is a fix.

Peace,

I hope so. This same thing happened to my co-worker across the office today. I'll make sure she updates again in the morning. Thanks.

Avast gives a lot of false warnings... I couldn't handle it for a single day... Get rid of it and use something else. Avira works just fine...

Microsoft Security Essentials is great for your everyday protection; much more efficient (read your computer runs faster) than AVG or Avast

If you're concerned that you already have a corrupt file or virus/worm/trojan/adware/malware then Malwarebytes is a fantastic scanner; it includes a boot sector scan IIRC.

Downloading and running CCleaner will remove any files your computer doesn't need, like registry files left over from uninstalled programs. After my scan, I had 200+ files. It'll also fix (or at least identify) any missing/damaged program elements.
