Damn, dude - this is why I hate Christmas.

On a related note, I walked by a Best Buy yesterday on my way to Thanksgiving diner, and there was already a line of about 50 people waiting to get in at noon. Some were in tents, so I assume they had probably been there all night already. What the hell?

Sad, sad, sad.

Personally, I am not buying any presents this year, and I'm not giving out Christmas lists. I'm baking cookies for my family and friends - most of us are doing something similar. We're all sick of the giant commercialism that is Christmas every year, and most of us now fall in to the "it's the thought that counts" camp.

More reports are coming out that indicate that the crowds may have actually broken down the doors to the store. Egads, man!

I'm doing very similar things for everyone I know. I'm building a couple of people some FX pedals, building the girlfriend an amp and so on.
Sure, I still bought things to do this, but I'm not going out and just hording gifts and handing them out.
I also did not and will not give a list or "ideas" out for what to get me.
I'm glad all of my friends have the same ideas as I do. Now if I could just convince my family as well...

Ridiculous. Although a friend of mine who works in a supermarket siad they had people throwing punches at each other in the last days before Christmas trying to get away with the last turkeys in the store!

Given that they're freezer compatible, why not just get one before the mobs turn angry?

I've always been amazed at the whole "day after Thanksgiving" massacre that we have here. The inconvenience just isn't worth the $$.

very true words and I agree.

this incident happened no more than 10 minutes from my house, just a town over (valley stream, border line of queens and not to far from brooklyn). doesn't surprise me, considering who shops there.

And in the $pirit of Christma$$$$$, most shoppers are buying for themselves.*

*Based on currently ongoing-since-5 O'clock-this-morning(!)first-hand field research, conducted by my wife & a team consisting of 3 other technicians(read bargain-hunter/mob sweller).

I don't start my Christmas shopping until December 1st or so...I'm not going to brave the crowds and parking to save $20 on a crappy DVD player, or whatever.

Actually, I do most of my shopping online now. Save a ton of time and hassle.

We get stuff like that here, too. When Tickle-Me-Elmo came out, I remember seeing people throwing punches in order to obtain a product which inevitably frightened their small children.

X-Mas: keep it classy.

Based on what? Stupidity like this certainly isn't limited to Wal-Mart.
