Interestingly, that same accident happened at that same park not too long ago, but the guy who fell got away with some broken bones. And a few weeks ago here at Coors Field, someone tried to slide down the hand rails and fell about 20 feet. He succumbed to his injuries and died a short time later.
Though the images are disturbing, I think (1) the press has the right to report the news, and (2) it might serve as a reminder to folks that you have to be careful around big drop offs at ballparks.

Even though the impact of the fall was out of view, I do think it's a lack of respect to his family to show his last moment alive falling over a railing with his son watching. I'm not outraged over it or anything, but if it was my family member I'm sure I would be. |

We don't really have any major drop offs like that in the UK at Football grounds, so accidents like this are not common. Some grounds have high tiers of course, but there's usually some sort of netting should anyone teeter over the edge.
Secondly, regarding the showing on TV, was there not a warning? Was it post watershed? Just curious what the regulations are over there.
Interesting how we watch hundreds of people die each time the twin towers footage is shown, but if it's something that shows an actual individual, we get all uncomfortable. Include myself in that, certainly not passing judgement on any prior or imminent posters. |

Include myself in that, certainly not passing judgement on any prior or imminent posters. | It is a "neat" (I say that lightly) psychology element when you can see an individual, and hear at least part of that individual's story versus a building falling (which is what you see, you don't see the people inside, obviously).
Another parallel can be drown with the people who were jumping out of the towers, versus the ones stuck inside. |

"They had him on a stretcher. He said, 'Please check on my son. My son was up there by himself.' The people who carried him out reassured him. 'Sir, we'll get your son, we'll make sure he's OK,' " Ziegler said. "He had his arms swinging. He talked and was conscious. We assumed he was OK. But when you find out he's not, it's just tough."

Just curious what the regulations are over there. | We have the FCC which regulates content and delivers fines for violations. The video does not show the impact or the graphic result of his injuries. The injuries are more implied as he just kind of disappears. So I doubt broadcasting this video violates any FCC regulations.
However, as a courtesy to viewers, a warning was definitely warranted. The channel I was watching offered a warning, but I think one or two others did not.

Really - people need to think twice about leaning over those railings. I don't care how much you want that ball, it's just not worth it. I can't even begin to imagine what his family is going through especially with that being shown on the news - and now immortalized on the Internet...
Breaks my heart to pieces.

I was friends with his older brother in highschool. Saw stu at a bar maybe 2 months prior to his death. Quite shocking to say the least. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
