They're actually doing that a little bit where I live, and that's a good thing. Then I won't throw a soda bottle at the back of the guy who ran the intersection like I...uh..thought about doing last summer.

We petitioned, called our councilman, showed up at city meetings, in short EVERY possible way to ask for action, to place a "dead end" sign at the intersection of our street & Shore drive (one of the busiest streets in VB. The continual answer was that our area was not up for that type of "review" for 6 more years.
Our street, a dead end, for some reason has a marked turn lane on the right for 500 yds prior to the intersection. There's no light, and no parking, but due to the turn lane we had at least 100 cars each day turning (some at high speed, due to the 45mph limit on Shore Dr) down our street and then turning around in our neighbor's driveway before speeding back down the street to leave. It was very dangerous for the neighborhood kids, and annoying at night. Still the city took no action.
Then mysteriously, our street sign post disappeared! The replacement, strangely enough, had a dead end sign on it.....

Then I thought about it, and he had a good point and was just trying to do something nice.
Then the counter-argument came, and about how harmful it truly is to just put a crosswalk there when it is not really enforced, and if someone gets hit while in it, then that will become a big issue.
It is tough, and overall, I don't think he deserves any kind of punishment, but fair warnings should be given out to prevent future instances. |

what he is going to court for is only a fineable offence.
the fine is to cover the cost of his vandalism. |
