Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Concert: Worthwhile To see?

Sign in to disble this ad
My wife and I are pulling together our Holiday entertainment Calendar and are looking at some options. We have pretty eclectic tastes and like all kinds of stuff.

So far we're teed up to see:

* The Minnesota Orchestra
* Alexander O'Neal
* Tower of Power
* The Nutcracker

Another option is Mannheim Steamroller but I'm up in the air on that one. We've never seen them before but I've heard that their Holiday show is pretty cool.

Anyone here have strong opinions one way or another on their show?

Be sure to see Doc's Christmas special with the MO. He is getting up in age...We saw it 5 years ago and even got to meet him backstage after the show(My niece took a trumpet lesson from principal trumpet player Manny Laureano and he set it up) I would see the steamrollers it was a mainstaple around the house during the holidays iirc it is all vocal no instruments. Wish I could get out more to see more shows but working 3rd shift does not help....I am going to see Heart at Mystic Lake casino in Dec for sure. Oh Yhea and go VIKES!!!!

I love Mannheim Steamroller, but haven't seen them live. Maybe you should check out one of their albums and pass judgement for yourself.

Nothing like TSO, I'd imagine, but a very good show nonetheless I'd assume.

They're very good live, but be aware that they are one of those bands that tries to reproduce the album tracks note for note on stage. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but whenever I pay big bucks to see a live band I like to hear them bring something new to the songs.

YMMV of course, they are all still supremely talented musicians that play some great music. If you do end up going to the show I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Now, time to listen to a Mannheim Steamroller CD...

I saw them once. I got drug to the show by my wife and her family. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I normally hate that style of music.

I dunno, have they been doing the exact same Christmas show since, what, 1985? Or do they change it up?

Decided to take a pass -- to get any kind of a decent seat, the tickets are upwards of $120 bucks each.

I don't want to see them that badly.
