we have had a huge turmoil going on, and it is really giving the marijuana advocates a bad image... Now it is getting a little less funny, and more serious
All the medical marijuana dispensaries have been closed in Redding. The only small town in the general area to still have an open medical marijuana dispensary is Shasta lake City, and it is on that city council docket for review, and possible closure.
The actions of the advocates is quite a local source of humor. First the president of the local NORML chapter got mad at a city council meeting, and proceeded to stand up and cuss out the entire city council, with a passion and vehemence that borders on admirable. This action was just another in a long list of behavior issues with this individual. It was serious enough that the local NORML chapter was disbanded, and a national representative for NORML issued the city of Redding a formal apology. Then another of the local advocates decided that they needed to recall all of the city council members, and the local sheriff. They collected 14 signatures. I am not kidding, they could only collect fourteen verifiable signatures for the recall effort. Of all the thousands of pot smokers, only 14 were willing to sign a petition, and were verifiable as residents and voters of our area. The local lawmakers passed an ordinance that marijuana could not be cultivated within a residence (outbuildings were OK), and could not be cultivated within 1,000 feet of sensitive areas like schools, established school buss stops, or churches. The marijuana advocates could not collect the signatures necessary to hold that over and put it on a public ballot
Now that the new laws are in effect, the city council and local officials are receiving death threats. it was humorous up to that point, but death threats are just a little too much...OK, maybe a LOT too much. What are these idiots thinking? Do they really think this is helping their cause

I'm sure the results would be the same if anything was banned, i.e.; guns, porn, sandals, self tanning lotion, applesauce, etc etc. People are generally a little crazy, some more than others.

So if they closed the pot shops in Redding I guess that means they have to buy weed the old-fashioned way. |

It's now costing the county more than any other special interest topic. The county and city are in a position where they can no longer back down. Obviously they cannot change their position on the matter because of death threats. They cannot reward the behavior of the idiots. Even local law enforcement cannot appear that they are supporting this by letting the collectives remain open after a close down order was issued, and they cannot appear that they are not taking the death threats seriously...

I feel no matter what topic you talk about, there will be advocates that take it too far, blah blah blah
As a user, I respect anyones opinion on it, good or bad. If they partake, great! Company! If they choose not to, I will do everything I can as to not disturb them. It's a choice, just like I choose not to were high heels when I bowl...

in many instances that is true...but come on, death threats because someone is not allowed to grow pot within 1000 feet of a school zone or a church...
someone had indulged in too much of their own "medicine"
here is the sad part of this. Our compassionate use bill (215) was never meant to legalize cannabis. it was meant to allow truly ill people some relief. Even the CA state medical association called it "folk medicine" with limited medicinal value. Still we voted for it. Hey, if someone with cancer finds momentary relief, fine. let them smoke.
The abuse of the system is ruining the original point of compassionate use. No matter what some advocates may claim, getting stoned is not an unalienable right. The abuse is the reason for the current backlash against use. The NORML websites still claim that 59% of Americans still support use, but logic shows otherwise . CA was the first state to legalize it for medicinal use, the first to put it on the ballot for complete legalization, and now is becoming the first state to turn against it... and it is because of the behavior of smokers and the abuse of the system
