Mark McGwire and his Steroid Use (should he?)

Should he be stripped of his most single season home run record? For that matter should all these athletes that hold records be stripped of them if they are found to be using roids and other performence enhancers that are banned?

Barry Bonds currently holds the single season HR record.

Quite honestly who cares. After the baseball strike that resulted in no world series in 1994, fans lost interest in the game. As far as I'm concerned the whole record breaking home run crap was rigged, and solely designed to try to bring interest back into baseball.

And honestly, is anyone shocked that an athlete was using "performance enhancing drugs"? What if Babe Ruth had a cup of regular coffee before any of his games? Should we strip him of any records for consuming caffeine?

Fwiw, although I have pretty much zero interest in sports, Baseball is about the only ball sport I actually like. So it's not like my opinion is coming from a hater, yo.

He'll be kept out of the Hall of Fame. The records, I think, will stand, because we just don't have the confidence one way or another. He'll always be known as a cheat.

That is my sentiment. I totally lost all interest for the game after that strike.

Baseball is a joke and these steroid pumped asshats are the golden lining of that joke. I feel sorry for the kids that looked up to him and the others that did the same thing.

I was listening to Mike & Mike and they were talking to a writer who votes in the hall-of-fame and this guy still thought that it was okay for Mark to get in..

+ 1.
The record books record what happened.

How an individual record or career or even an entire era will be thought of over time is anyone's guess. My guess is that the PEDs era will be a factor in discussions, just as fans look at the deadball era records and players in a certain way or the pre-Jackie Robinson days or the pre-air travel, the high mound/high strike zone days in the late 60's-early 70's, etc.

The record books will say what happened; but fans will make their own judgements as far as what those records mean.
