Makes sense though, because videos of a guy playing along with records that most people have never heard of surely costs the record companies money.
Seriously, MarloweDK (aka Thomas Risell) is actually responsible for me buying three albums after hearing him play along with songs off them. I understand YouTube's predicament, but they are going about things in a completely stupid manner.
BTW, I believe all of MarloweDK's YouTube videos are available on his site playbassnow.com |

See Big O's post.
I, for one, have never heard a song I liked and said to myself: "Self, why don't we (I like to use the royal 'we' in these instances) go onto youtube and use a video of someone I've never heard of playing bass along with that track instead of buying a copy of the song/album." On the other hand, I have purchased music after hearing it on youtube.
Can I get a side of DRM with that?

The idea was probably, "wouldn't it be cool if people could have a place to upload and store their videos online"? My guess would be that it grew out of seeing an image hosting site and taking it one step further.
If they had the foresight to see what it would become, I think things would have been different. Then again, if there were restrictions on what could be uploaded from the beginning, maybe YouTube never becomes as prominent as it is.
But back on the actual topic of MarloweDK, I wouldn't be surprised if he petitions YouTube and the vast majority (if not all) of his videos get reinstated. |

We pay youtube by paying our ISP, we pay youtube by seeing and clicking the adds... Do you pay ESPN directly or pay for the provider
and then pay ESPN by watching the adds?

| YouTube has almost no ads at all to speak of, and the ones that exist are within certain company-produced videos, not on clickable ads. Quote:

| Many stations make money directly from subscription revenue. The ones that don't get paid through ads. For those stations, I don't pay them directly, and therefore have no right to get upset if they cancel a program. |

Oh and btw, youtube does make a god damn lot of money. http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main/youtube.com
(take a look on the revenue section)
