Well, let me contribute by making a post that belongs in Recordings:
Last Wednesday I listened to the whole "Bedlam in Goliath" album. I'm on record as liking At The Drive-In more than TMV, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think this is their best album. Their new drummer brings incredible energy and the production is a lot cleaner which I think is important for such a dense band.
Have fun at the show. From what I understand Mars Volta concerts are either really good or really bad. Both times I saw them the sound was awful. In fact, when they opened for RHCP it might have been the worst sound of any band I've ever seen. But I think you'll have better luck at a small venue. Find the sound man and sit there. |

Have fun!! And be sure to ask them if they could perhaps "park" TMV for a year and take ATDI out for a spin again!! |

My friend Barry lives out there now and has been blathering about the "secret show" for a couple days now. |

At The Drive-In New Mars Volta
All good. I just liked ATDI more than I like TMV. More direct and less self indulgence. And De Facto were better than they were given credit for.
How many people fit in the Bren Center? I would guess 4 or 5 thousand. |

The new one drops today, though Napster had it online a week early and I'm sure it was leaked illegally elsewhere. |

It sounds a little schizophrenic to me...the songs don't get to the point hardly ever, and I don't dig the almost funky elements they're throwing in. Sounds like TMV chanelled throu Ima Robot. a little goofy and semi-cheesy |

I'm not the biggest TMV fan, but it's actually the album of theirs I liked the most, at least on first listen. Still, I'd take Relationship of Command over all of them. That album has such an incredible tension to it. |

EDIT. Ok. Quarantine is very dub influenced in the beginning. One Armed Scissor is not. lol.

I tihnk I'd have to go on the record as liking ATDI more than TMV...but I like 'em both...
I always loved ATDI's ability to go from mellow to super heavy at the drop of a hat...
thanks for the "Quarantine" link...definitely enjoyed that.
