I think people have forgotten there's more forums than just off-topic. Showing off new basses, music DVDs, concert info all in Off-Topic.

Well, let me contribute by making a post that belongs in Recordings:

Last Wednesday I listened to the whole "Bedlam in Goliath" album. I'm on record as liking At The Drive-In more than TMV, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think this is their best album. Their new drummer brings incredible energy and the production is a lot cleaner which I think is important for such a dense band.

Have fun at the show. From what I understand Mars Volta concerts are either really good or really bad. Both times I saw them the sound was awful. In fact, when they opened for RHCP it might have been the worst sound of any band I've ever seen. But I think you'll have better luck at a small venue. Find the sound man and sit there.

Okay... I am jealous...

Have fun!! And be sure to ask them if they could perhaps "park" TMV for a year and take ATDI out for a spin again!!

What is At The Drive In? Is this somehow associated with TMV? Did I miss something?

Holy Crap. Dub? How did I not hear of this? Awesome, I'm gonna check this out. Knowing that they have roots in Dub makes me like TMV even more.

ATDI owns all over TMV, at least since DeLoused...this new album bores me to tears....Frances did nothing for me either...self indulgence over songwriting.

My friend Barry lives out there now and has been blathering about the "secret show" for a couple days now.

De Facto

At The Drive-In

New Mars Volta

All good. I just liked ATDI more than I like TMV. More direct and less self indulgence. And De Facto were better than they were given credit for.

How many people fit in the Bren Center? I would guess 4 or 5 thousand.

Hey Ron - have you heard the new album or are you talking about Amputechture? The new one drops today, though Napster had it online a week early and I'm sure it was leaked illegally elsewhere.

Naw man, I am talking about the new one. It sounds a little schizophrenic to me...the songs don't get to the point hardly ever, and I don't dig the almost funky elements they're throwing in. Sounds like TMV chanelled throu Ima Robot. a little goofy and semi-cheesy

Interesting. I'm not the biggest TMV fan, but it's actually the album of theirs I liked the most, at least on first listen. Still, I'd take Relationship of Command over all of them. That album has such an incredible tension to it.

I think 3500. It's my old campus. So I have all kinds of access to it too.

I just listened to so ADI on You Tube. Nice. Wikipedia's funny. They mentioned Dub influences. This is nothing like Dub. Still good though.

EDIT. Ok. Quarantine is very dub influenced in the beginning. One Armed Scissor is not. lol.

Man...

I tihnk I'd have to go on the record as liking ATDI more than TMV...but I like 'em both...

I always loved ATDI's ability to go from mellow to super heavy at the drop of a hat...

thanks for the "Quarantine" link...definitely enjoyed that.

I really implore you to bring a set of earplugs to that show. If you do not, you will regret it.
