It will be "fight the power" for me. A great band that managed to extend their appeal across many era's. Perhaps one of the most underrated bands in Rock and Roll.

I've got a bunch of Isley tunes playing on my iPod this afternoon.

When I was in my early teens in the 70s there was a TV show late on Friday nights called "In Concert." One of the bands I saw on the show that impressed me the most was the Isley Brothers. I particularly remember Ernie Isley smoking away on guitar on "Machine Gun" and the rest of the band grooving behind him. That was a formative moment in my mind, learning about how a band comes to sound like a band.

Right now … I'm paying attention to the bass line on "That Lady" more deeply than usual.

I'd like to think you live far past when your body dies. Especially an influential musician of this caliber. I'll be playing some Isley Bros tonight in band practice.

Said to here this. I go way too far back with the Isley's. I remember when Jimi Hendrix backed them up on the guitar, which soon opened the door for Ernie to step in, along with Marvin and Jasper. I have to say they were probably my most influential band, period. Just the other day... well I just checked and realized that I still have the Funky Family C.D. in my C.D. player. I was up late the other night playing Marvin's bass lines, funkin' them up and groovin'. Well, I just found out about this just moments ago about Marvin's passing. My prayers are with him and his family.
