Anyone else find their bass time dwindling thanks to ME2?
So far the game is awesome, I don't like some of the changes (no more items?!/really limited armor customization) and the mineral scanner crap makes me want to kidnap a BioWare developer and force him to watch me scan every planet clockwork orange style....but other things are great, the loyalty powers (and being able to learn squad powers) all the quests are incredible and engaging, almost no filler in this regard, they really did make combat more interesting and strategic...Ohh yeah, and Martin Sheen gives you your missions :P
22 Adept, with barrier as my additional, BTW.

I'm waiting on my brother to finish it and let me borrow it when he's done. The wait sucks, but keeping $60 in my pocket is nice
I was a big fan of the first one, it's one of the few games I've played through twice to try out the different choices you can make throughout the story. |

You gotta be into sci-fi, cause the whole game is about aliens co-existing/politics/AI v. Organics and at least a little bit into RPG games. Bioware is the same company who made Never Winter Nights and Dragon Age (also an amazing game).
They made some mistakes with the first ME (making you level weapons so that the first time you pick up the game you miss with half your shots until you get to around level 5). Like in any RPG you start off pretty gimpy and it can be kinda slow, but once you get a few levels in it picks up.
They also dump you into a side quest/market/city area that's sans-action for a long time right after the first level, but its necessary for plot and such, I know a lot of people don't like how long the Citadel level was....but you can always just do the plot stuff and come back for the other crap later.
ME1 is one of my favorite games for its plot and environments, the free reign they give you to do plot missions in any order ect. The conversation system is brilliant, and the voice acting is great (Seth Green, The creepy guy from requiem for a dream, Diana Troy from Star trek) everything is very detailed.
Straight up soldier is the easiest way to play but if your looking for ultimate power I recommend Adept
Also your second play through allows you to transfer a weapon proficiency to a new character, and you can restart the game and maintain your current character level. |

If you like fallout you will most likely like this as well...They striped down the RPG elements a little in this second game, and even ME1 wasn't as hardcore an RPG as fallout was. Instead of VATS you actually shoot, but they give you a live pause system from which to switch weapons or use abilities (sorta like the fallout menu but you can actually target in it and more condensed to keep with what you need in active combat + control your squad).
It's somewhere between Dragon Age and Fallout... in space. First one has items + upgrades to each item, the second has a global upgrade system because you manage a 12 person squad and I think they felt like managing each of their items would be tedious. You also get a handful of items for yourself though. |

I think the FPS aspect truned me off (that and I wasn't used to xbox controls), but I think I may have to give it another go. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review. | If you don't like shooting definitely play Adept (its hard for the first few level though, until you unlock enough powers).
You can basically disable every enemy in a room by suspending them around gravity wells, lifting them in the air/throwing them hundreds of feat, putting them in stasis and then popping them with your pistol (or another weapon if its your second character and you've unlocked one) as they float helplessly through the air, and barrier makes you un-killable.
and remember you can just hold the wheel and pause the game, line up a shot, move your squad, activate powers, w/e. |

| | NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN! | | Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada | | | I just finished ME2 yesterday. Incredible game. Pretty much improved upon the first game in every possible way. Story was epic as hell. The mineral scanning was a bit meh, but it wasn't really too time consuming, and I just did it in spurts here and there.
I just started playing ME1 again as a renegade and will go directly from that into ME2 and play through it that way, as well. I feel as though there were a lot of experiences I missed by being a paragon.
It's early, but this is definitely going to be a shortlist candidate for GotY. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
