I'm supposed to extend the series by two.
The nubers are:
30, 17, 32, 15, 34
If I'm correct the next 2 numbers would be 21 and 36.
If I'm understanding this correctly, the series would be -13, +15, -17, and +19 and after the "34" I'd start the series over from -13.
If I'm wrong, please enlighten me. I am slightly confused as I was asking a couple of family members to double check for me and they're saying something completely different as to what I thought I heard the professor explain.

34 - 21 = 13
13 + 23 = 36

This one just seems more based on toilet crossword book logic. |

It's an excersize in pattern recognition and conjecture. I just helped my high school sophomore with this chapter last night.
Though not technically mathematics, it is a precursor to mathematic disciplines like geometry.
It can be perceived as simple math if you state the postulate something like, "increase the larger number by 2 while reducing the smaller number by 2," or words to that affect.
