When people say continental u.s. does that include Canada? I know dumb question but Canada is on the same continent so...
Help an ignorant kid out? >_<

It is an odd term - is Alaska on a different continent? Now contiguous, that makes sense.

He brings up a good point... well he didn't but he got me thinking . Why is it called the continental US when it doesn't include Alaska? Alaska is part of the North American continent so why exclude it? Unless the term was coined before Alaska joined the union, it doesn't seem quite accurate in that regard.

well one does have to cross a border or two to get there by land.....i'd really like to hear more about that 51st state idea....

Continental U.S. means the United States, which Canada is not a part of.

Surely continental US includes Alaska? But not Hawaii, obviously.
