Maybe moving to El Paso for a while

Anybody from El Paso TX wanna comment?
Here is what I know so far:
Big metro area
Diverse population?
Heard on the news that some crime from Juarez may spill over in El Paso?
Housing is affordable compared to NOLA.
Should have quite a Spanish influence, which will be a change for me since I speak French, oh well still a latin language....

Now how is the music scene, bars etc? Also job markets stink everywhere right now but how is it in El Paso?

well, I know TB member "whoarethecrunk" is from El Paso. From what I hear, El Paso sucks for music scene, and sucks in general.

What's wrong with NOLA? I mean, we could all use a change, but why move?

my wife works for the military, and NOLA is a dying city business wise and we have so many stupid people running it.

All I know about El Paso is that it's a long ass drive from there, to pretty much any other place in TX.

Are you just looking for a change, or do you have job offers in El Paso?

I lived there for a year in the late 80s.

I liked it.

I always liked the scenery - it's definitely more like NM and AZ than most of Texas. Any travel you do will probably be to New Mexico, as it's too darn far to anywhere in TX. Plenty of great Mexican food, and you can get different styles of it. I suspect that crime rate is somewhat high, so keep your eyes open and your doors locked.

thanks for the responses. I don't have a job offer yet from Fort Bliss but my wife may get a job upward of six figures, so guess what, I am following her there

El Paso is alright from what I remember.

You're closer to Albuquerque than you are to TX's big cities, if that means anything to you.

Aside from Ft. Bliss, there's also White Sands Missile Range which (as I recall) is around 50 miles from Ft. Bliss. There's also the Army hospital and a VA hospital.

Within Federal employment- there's working directly for DOD, AAFES, and the VA and the Veterans Canteen Service.

No not any more. The Taco Factory was shut down and moved to Mexico back in the 40's.

Those were the glory days of Old El Paso. Makes my taco pop!
