Maynards Wine Gums

A sad night in my home. I finished off my last roll of wine gums. I have no immediate plans of returning to Victoria BC to buy some more. I am forced to go online and buy them now from some company in the USA taking full advantage of my desire to have more.

One site wanted $10 to ship me one bag and three rolls. What a scam!

$10 for shipping? I can buy a few packages and ship them for less than that!

PM me your address and I'll throw some in the mail, all I ask for is a postcard in return.

I live in Victoria, BC now... I could send you some too. Was this just a thinly-veiled plea for help?

Um, no. Not even close. There is nothing made by the USA candy companies that even comes close to Maynards. Nothing.

Kind of. I was prepared to suck it up and buy some anyway. I figured if someone wanted to help out, that would be most appreciated.

I was hoping to come visit your city again before 2008 expires, but it doesn't look good now. How is the weather in January? I'm sure it's damp and cold like it is down here. Do you get much snow in January?

We did high tea at a hotel right by where the passenger ferry comes in. It was right across the street. I was referred to it by some locals as they said it was much better and cheaper than the Empress. It was very good. Is high tea something they do year round, or just during the busy tourist season?

ha. snow? maybe four or five days a year? we get 10" on average through the whole season. it's "damp" pretty often but we do get nice days of full sun every several days. it's never really colder than jacket weather here.

you from seattle? want to send me something back? like... grunge? i think high tea is all year, victorians have a big english pride thing going on. and i think most agree that the empress is a little overrated, despite how fond people are of it here (i'm a native vancouverite).

I live about an hour south of Seattle. I can't send you any grunge, we're pretty much out down here.

We took some pictures of the Empress, but did not go inside. We spent the day walking to the Craigdarroch Castle, and then around the main downtown area. We ate at some joint called Earls. What a waste of money. We did the high tea, checked out some of the street vendors, then listened to some music at a outdoor area that looked like maybe the town square. Good time overall, and we'll be back.

Just use those new ziplock vacuum bags. I have some that I freeze meat with, and man, they work WONDERFULLY.

$8.84 for a 4 pack, but $30.00 for a 36 pack? That's over twice as much per roll if you buy the 4 pack

The best is that it's $30.00 for a 36 pack and $71.00 for a 72 pack...so it's actually $11.00 more to buy the big pack than 2 of the small packs.

Id offer to post some over, but I looked into it before, and the cost of posting small parcels to the US seems to cost significantly more than the sweets inside!

You should try out "Sports Mixture" they arent as good now that Maynards took them over (used to be Lions) but they are still ok. They just lack my favourite flavour

Thanks for the offer. I tried that mixture also, and I don't care for it either. I gave the "Dolly Mix" or whatever it is called a try. I also tried the ones with the juicy centre. No thanks on all those.

In this case, I am sticking with the OG. Nothing beats them.

Fair play

The only thing I dont like about wine gums is that almost greasy feel they have. Hmm, could go buy some now, theres a shop just two minutes down the road
