This mom had a dog from the same place that trained my daughter's dog Shenandoah. I've been hassled before but never assaulted for bringing Shenandoah anywhere, not even into the PICU. I've got a lot of stress in my life as a father to a disabled child, and I'd hate to think of what I would have done in her situation. Trust me, the manager would be better off in the cops' hands than in mine.

Maybe the manager will take the time to read up on the ADA laws while she's in the clink.

Sheesh! Was the dog wearing a vest? That's just beyond stupidity if the dog was wearing a vest!

That's pretty poor.
And I can see how it hits home especially for you.
There are people everywhere with merde-for-brains. This was clearly one of them.

So a service dog is what we call a 'guide dog' in the UK?

Jeebus that's harsh. What a deeply unpleasant person.

My dog probably would have killed the manager for punching me.

there mis no "they" in this case. Didn't it say the manager was off the clock? It's now a case of the nitwit vs. the Mom.

Yeah, I don't think McDs has any blame here since the manager was off duty and they fired her on the spot. I think the family is most interested in just making sure people get educated and that this sort of thing doesn't happen in the future.

I'm sorry but I have to be that guy (as I am in most threads) and ask where the common sense in the mom was. If some other person was yelling at her and following her around the restaurant and giving her trouble then why didn't she just leave and go through the drive-through instead? I understand it's their legal right to be there, but if some person did that to me when my (hypothetical) kids were with me I'd just walk out and either call headquarters to complain or come back later when my kids weren't with me.

They had already eaten and the kids were playing in the play place when this happened. One of the kids was trying to run off and she was assaulted while she was trying to leave with them.

They have every right to be there. EVERY LEGAL RIGHT. Their rights under ADA and IDEA have been supported by recent court decisions.

I generally don't like to visit any restaurants with my daughter and her service dog, but there are times when we have to do that, like this past week when we were on a trip for a medical appt. I'm the king of drive thru but sometimes a kid has to get his/her wiggles out or you're on the road and don't want to eat in a hot car.

Like I said, they might have a legal right to be there, but eventually you have to stop, use common sense, and say, "Do I want to be right and possibly be assaulted by this person (which is what happened), or do I want myself and my family to be safe and just leave before something happens?" I would of left and called McDonald's headquarters (and maybe even the police) and sought to have the off duty manager fired.

By firing the off duty manager for actions that happened while off the clock may put McD's on 2 hooks instead of letting them off of one.

McD: We are not responsible in any way because the manager in question was off the clock.

Saul Goodman: Why did the manager get fired after the incident?

McD: The manager was in uniform and that is a representations of McD's as a whole. Because of the actions, we let go of the manager.

Saul Goodman: The manager - I mean my client...

They were in the process of trying to leave. She has two kids with autism. Leaving is not always easy.

I don't think one needs a lack of common sense to expect to visit a restaurant and not be assaulted. I vigorously resent your implication that her actions had some responsibility in creating the incident.

I understand that, but when someone is getting on to you the entire time you're there and even goes as far as to follow you into the bathroom to continue harassing you... yeah, it's easy to expect something to go down. I would of left as soon as it was apparent that the person harassing me wasn't going to stop and called the cops.
