The meat industry is creating a shortage (MUST READ)

Sign in to disble this ad
We were having an interesting conversation with someone that works with one of the big chicken companies in the US (probably one of the first two you would think of) in an executive level about what they are doing with the rising costs of corn and feed due to ethanol and the economic downturn and general price increases.

Get ready for this.

He said they are slaughtering young chickens because IT IS CHEAPER TO KILL THE CHICKEN THEN TO FEED THEM (it costs more in feed and labor than what they can sell the chicken for). So they are creating an industry shortage to drive the price of chickens up so they can afford to feed them still keep the revenue coming in.

He also said that their plan is to create enough of a shortage to almost create a panic so when people go from paying 2.09 to 3.89 per pound for chicken they won't care because they will glad they just got chicken in the first place. They are trying to get the price of their chickens stabilized about double what it is now, which would equate to double or slightly higher than double at the grocer.

This isn't from an editoral in a newspaper but someone in an executive position with this company that is a good family friend (which will remain nameless or obvious reasons).

What's funny is they have to keep their existing contracts for some of the restaurant chains and pre-arranged pricing so the general consumer bears the weight for this one.

He didn't get into specifics but I wouldn't be surprised to hear a "killer" virus hits ones of the larger distribution centers to stave off public outcry.

"killer" virus = big club

All they need to say is there is some traces of bird flu and they can take out a whole plant's worth of birds.

That's what happened over here just 6 months or so back.

they can create all the shortages they want... as long as there are vegans out there, my hunger for meat shall be sated.

We have neighbors with dogs. Big, meaty, juicy dogs. I hear they're decent in a stir-fry if you slice 'em thin...

Naming appendages has to be some kind of psychiatric disorder.

With the price of chicken at the market, I've been considering just that. There's a nice coop next door, at the house that's been vacant for over a year now. I need to get someone with a pickup to help me move it over here.

Or I could build one myself, but, you know...LOL!

Seriously...I'd like a good, strong coop (we have foxes and weasels and coyotes and bobcats around here). And some little Arikara hens. They lay colored eggs, have a gentle disposition (comparatively speaking -- roosters are just plain mean, no matter the breed), and only need to be dusted for mites once a year. I raised some when I was high school, and sold yard eggs for extra cash.

Its just plain ugly to create a poultry shortage on purpose. Ugly, ugly, ugly!

I guess it would be kinda fun to raise my own chickens. Not too sure my parents would take too kindly to the idea. Now if I could perhaps raise my own Geese...

They just shut down a plant here in NC blaming the high cost of feed. They went on to blame the farmers for selling their corn Ethanol producers and causing a shortage that have sent prices soaring.

I guess the Meat Processors have learned from the Oil Companies on how to earn record profits while sticking it to the consumer.
