'The memory could not be read...'

Sometimes while I'm watching videos on Youtube, Firefox crashes, and I get an error message which says

"The instruction at blahblahblah referenced memory at blahblahblah. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program, click cancel to debug the program."

If I restart Firefox and go back to Youtube, the same thing happens. If I restart, it is cured, so it is an annoyance but I can deal with it.

However, yesterday I tried to play Test Drive Unlimited online. I had been playing it all summer fine, and the last time I played with it was mid September. However, last night every time I started playing, within a couple of minutes the game would freeze, and after Ctrl+Alt+Del I can see the same message on my desktop (with different numbers). Restarting makes no difference. I googled the numbers in the message to see if there was a fix, but there weren't any results.

The internet told me that this problem was usually caused by missing or incorrect registry entries. Is this true, and if so, can you recommend me a good registry checcker/cleaner/fixer? If not, what can I do about it?

Thanks

I hope not. I've only had it since the start of the year.

EDIT: Also, I've been playing ArmA all week with no problems, and I can watch DVDs etc with no problems either.
