"Men at Work" signs removed for being sexist

Personally, I think they should remove them for being false. I can't remember the last time I saw ANYONE working at a road construction site.

As far as them being sexist, I tend to refer to Spinal Tap, the authority on such things:

Quote:
Ian Faith: They're not gonna release the album... because they have decided that the cover is sexist.
Nigel Tufnel: Well, so what? What's wrong with bein' sexy? I mean there's no...
Ian Faith: Sex-IST!
David St. Hubbins: IST!

I wonder where the local government will get the money to pay for the altered/new signs... a budget cut on education, perhaps? Good work, lady!

Euphemisms are for the inadequately brained. Ever seen George Carlin's routine about how 'shell-shock' got sanitised over the years to 'post-traumatic stress disorder'? How about the fact that, in the early 1900s, the proper, medical term for the 'mentally challenged' was retarded. The 'physically challenged', or 'differently-abled', or whatever the heck they're called this week were cripples. And an african-american would be the same person with any other label attached: In my lifetime, the 'polite' term has morphed from 'negro', 'coloured', 'black', to 'african-american'; and probably a few in between I've missed (Race is not a huge issue here.)

The upshot being is that the 'proper', 'polite' words and terms invariably get used as epithets by the ignorant, so these attention/money/power seeking parasites use them as rallying points for their 'causes', knowing full well it's just a vicious circle; but that keeps them in business, right?

Those road signs should say "your tax dollars at rest," to be accurate, anyway.

But even that term emphasizes "man". I think we're only a short time away from humanandwomankind.

granted, its a ridiculous circle. I respect people who stand up for their rights, but this is just taking it too far

I wonder how many workers will be hit while the signs are out of service while being politically corrected.
