OK....so I've been doing some scientific research over the last few months. What I have found is that every Mexican restaurant I have been to, about six different ones, does not give you a spoon on the table. I always have to ask for one. It's a lot of work eating rice on a fork. So many pieces fall through the tines. As for refried beans, unless you have some cheese to hold them together, forget about eating those successfully with a fork.
I encourage you to take notice of this the next time you go out to a Mexican joint to eat. I'm pretty positive there won't be a spoon on the table when you sit down to eat.
So what's the deal anyway? Are there no spoons in Mexico or what?

Maybe you don't get enough real Mexicans up in Washington?

Chopsticks? No way, that's way too much work to eat.
We got plenty of real Mexicans up here. Maybe they left their spoons at home when they left Mexico.

-Mike | we don't have a need for spoons because you can't stab people with spoons.. you can stab with a fork and knife!!!
LOL
down here in south texas, everything is very mixed.. depends on the type of place you go into, i guess.

I looked around at some other people with soup, and yes indeed, they were slurping it....no spoons.

-Mike | hahah I was kidding on the other posts. I must say I've done that but only when there was no one watching. I haven't seen many people doing this here in mexico.
Anyway, we DO use spoons here in mexico, the question I may ask is, what do they serve in those restaurants you go? (I know mexican food, but please, be more specific.)
And no, I havent seen many people eating rice with a spoon. |

But I'd ask for a fork anyway because when I'm at a restaurant I like to close one eye and look at other patrons through the the tines because it makes them look like they're in jail.
Then I concoct a story about why they are in prison. Quote:

One of my buddies says eating with chopsticks will help a person lose weight since it takes more effort and time to eat. I can see his point, but I'm too impatient to try it.
