Michael Jordan and the NBA Lockout

Whitlock: If MJ sides with owners, he's a sellout - NBA News | FOX Sports on MSN

Jason Whitlock is not a favorite of mine, but from what I have seen and heard of Michael Jordan, this is believeable.

Living in Chicago and knowing some folks with direct contact, MJ is not a good guy. Not a horrible person, but not someone you like when you meet him.

Eh, Michael Jordan entertained me when I paid to watch him play, so I have no complaints. Maybe he is a jerk off the court, but that's none of my business.

Kill professional sport.

Promote sport within your local area with local clubs/teams.

IMO of course, I just prefer seeing teams that are made from people local to that area, not the best players that they could afford

Jason Whitlock has got to be one of the worst sports columnists ever. He love's playing on controversy (that isn't really there), and fabricating story lines. I can't tell you how many articles I've read of his where he plays a "race card" for the sake of being controversial or edgy.

On a related note Michael Jordan already sold out long ago when he decided to have a clothing/shoe line where the entry level price was $100. Does it make him a crook? Doubtful.

Jordan runs one of the teams with the absolutely smallest market. It's more a business decision than greed. He is just representing what his need to be to be profitable and nothing wrong with that IMO.

Just reading the column and not knowing much about it (and caring much less than that) it reads like a hatchet job.

No one cares much about whether the NBA plays, except the poor folks who make their livings providing stadium services and other NBA-related businesses.

Well, I liked how the author kept putting 'sellout' at the end of the first 3 or so paragraphs....
I guess that's one way to really drive your point home...

You know that eventually you'll just have professional sport again if you do that right...

Jason Whitlock is not someone that I really care for because I feel that he panders to a lot of negative stereotypes about black athletes for his audience, but from everything I have ever read or seen, Jordan has never cared much about anyone but himself. Clearly that self absorption made him the most spectacular American athlete in the late 20th century, but I just don't think he has ever done anything that did not help himself directly besides the obvious sorts of charity things that all athletes are involved in at one time or another.

True.

As is becoming more apparent, this is not necessarily true. It's good for oh, I don't know, 1% of the people?

Baseball

He really isn't a great owner either. He was fired at Washington and has made some poor personnel decisions as an executive.

unfortunately, you are not in a position to know, as I am not in a position to know whether my statement is true, because we have not seen capitalism since the 20's. i can only go by what happened in the centuries BEFORE this ungodly government interference, crony capitalism etc.... we had the greatest improvement in the standard of living the world had ever seen.

what we have now is NOT capitalism...it is government interference, picking favorites etc, and everything the GOVERNMENT touches turns to s**t. sort of like King Midas, except with a different product

what say we go back to capitalism, just as an experiment, and see if we can experience to same phenomenon? sort of like Asia has been doing for the past 40 years or so.

i'd personally hate to live in a world that followed that ethos as an optimal path to prosperity for humanity.

oh no... you make a very good point.

i was talking purely about economics. all those people you name assuredly acted out of generous spirit, for the public good... no argument at all. (although I am unclear as to exactly which teachers perished in the service of their country...?)

on the economic front, however, we make the most progress and do the best when government gets out of the way and allows everyone to pursue their own selfish interest.
