Michael Vick Signs With the Eagles

Sign in to disble this ad
Yes, I know this is already in the NFL thread, but I think a lot of people who have an opinion on this won't see it there.

Personally? I think he did what was asked of him by the courts and lost a boatload of money....I'm not sure I can think of a reason he shouldn't be allowed to earn money in the NFL again.

Mike

I would like to have seen him play for the Titans as a backup for Collins and a replacement for Young. Having him play ground ball would make the AFC South mor interesting again, like it was a couple years ago. I am a Jag fan.

Speaking of QB signings, anybody happen to know if Leftwich was signed as the starter or backup for the Bucs?

Leftwich is competing for the starting spot with McKown. We'll see...

People do cruel things to animals all the time and get away with it. You should see the cocktails that racehorses ingest on a daily basis. What Michael Vick did was wrong, but he paid his debt to society. He is in the high-profile position of being wide open to public criticism. I wish every professional athlete was perfect and never made mistakes for the integrity of the sport, but it never seems to work out that way. Should he be banned from the NFL forever? That rarely happens in the NFL, or in life.

However, if he crosses the line, any line, ever again, I say ban him. He has used his three strikes (or four downs, take your pick). I'm not sure we've seen this guy play consistently up to his potential yet, so I'm kinda pumped to see him play again. Let's hope he learned from his mistakes.

i think he deserves a chance to earn a living doing what he does best. if no team was interested in his services i wouldn't have been surprised nor angry, but i think the nfl did the right thing by reinstating him. despite the fact that, to me, animal cruelty may be morally more serious than theft or arms or drug possession, a crime is a crime and jail time has been done.

Heck, I remember when people routinely shot old dogs that couldn't hunt anymore. We still kill thousands of unadopted animals every year. I know that is not the same that as killing dogs who were bad fighters, but the fact is that we have never treated animals as equals. Given that fact, I cannot see holding a grudge against the man after he did his time and lost his fortune.

I just wish him good fortune, and good judgement.

I think that he should have signed to a wildcat team... 2 or 3 rushing qbs on the field (rushing qb and 2 runningbacks with spectacularly good arms?)

that would be a sweet offensive setup

This thread needs a poll.

he did his time. If anything, he was punished much more severely than the "usual" dog beater. There is also a lot of background stuff that played a part (how one is brought up, culture, etc.).

He wasn't the "usual" dog beater.
He killed dogs outright in a number of pretty savage ways.

That said, the NFL hires people who get into shootings outside of strip clubs, and I'm not sure that what Vick did was much worse.
I do agree the he did his time and should be able to earn a living.
It will be interesting to see what he does, both professionally and in his life. It would be cool if he turns over a new leaf. It would be cool and smart if he does some philanthropy for animals and people.

Vick didn't just "kill" dogs, he sadistically tortured them on a regular basis.

B-E-A-G-L-E-S!!!

My hopes and aspirations for Vick have been called morbid and uncalled for here. So I'll keep them to myself.
