MIddle Aged TB'ers: How Young is Too Young for You?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm married so this is hypothetical for me, but I am curious for Tb'ers 40 and up, how young is too young to date? What made me think of this was last Tuesday at the campus resturaunt, I happened to be next to a very pretty undergraduate that I had noticed from time to time. I smiled at her and spoke, she was a very polite young lady, but after being close to her, I could not help but think, "Gosh, this is just a kid!"

I know some men in their 40's or 50's date women in their 20's, but I can't imagine it. Whenever I am around a really young woman, I keep thinking, "I could be your Dad," and no matter how pretty the woman is, looking at them sexually just creeps me out. I guess if I were single, my cut-off would have to be around 35, I wouldn't want to date a woman I could have changed as a baby.

meh it varies. I've seen some very mature early 20-somethings and some annoyingly immature 30-somethings. Would just depend on the gal's personality. But generally, if I was single I'd say 21+ is fine, below that no way. Mrs Relic is actually 10 years younger than me

I'm 41. I've noticed that most young women I see in bars are children to me. They have to be 21, but they just don't strike me as women. If I could have gone to high school with a girls father I don't find them to be viable possibilities.

I'm married so it's a moo point, but I like em in their 30's or 40's I guess.

I'm only 28 (I don't get to say that very often) but I've already established my rules... With my girlfriend's permission, of course.

Dating is different than just taking someone home for the night, as far as personality goes, but my 21+ rule is always in effect.

Same here Dr. Cheese. I am happily married and 43, but if I was dating I would want someone at least 35 or so. A friend at work has a good buddy that is 48 or so and dating a 22 year old. She is a cute girl but looks like a kid to me.

I've always assumed the rule of thumb to be half your age +7 as the minimum age you want to be messing with. That makes 28 for me, which seems about right.

20 is about as young as I'd go.

Yeah....my cutoff used to be 10 years difference. Recent events have forced me to revise my thoughts on the matter and embrace the idea that anything is possible.

However, as a general rule I think a 10 year difference is the max.

I'm 39 (for another 3 months)... the wife is 7 years younger than me. Age is a state of mind and I tend to judge people individually. That said, the 10 year general rule make sense to me... maybe 15 tops.

I'm 37 and I'm not one bit ashamed to be ogling anyone 18+. Or having a fling if they're up for it.

On the other hand, actually having a serious relationship with anyone that young would be a waste of both our time.

I'm 48, no women younger than 40, please...can't relate to them at all....plus they are more likely to be attracted to my socio-economic status, rather than the seedy bass player I really am.....

10- 15 year age difference acceptable.

A lot depends on where you live what's acceptable. I've been to LA & New York and seen guys in there late 40s to 50 with 20 year old girls, but usually the dude had $$$$- Spells Trophy Wife, but that goes both ways

It depends on many factors. My daughter has 18 year old friends that are more mature that some of my wife's 40+ year old friends. If they can support themselves and manage their own finances, that's a good start

The oddball thing about it though is that the older I get, the more the younger gals flirt. What's up with that?? When I was in my 20's I had nowhere near the amount of flirting going on.
I'm trying to figure out if:
a) many younger girls actually find 10+ year older guys attractive or
b) we're "safe" to flirt with cuz we're attached old codgers :P

The funny thing is that although I would not be interested in dating a very young woman (if I were single,) I have no problem with enjoying a sexy photo of a young woman or seeing a pretty woman in a movie or TV show. I guess the unreality of those situations makes it cool.
